Senior Alcohol Care Team Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the NHSE funded Alcohol Care Team based at the Princess Royal Hospital, as a Senior Alcohol Care Team Nurse. The post is fixed term for 12 months. You will be joining a small, friendly and dedicated specialist team and the succesful candidate will be pivitol in developing and driving forward an effective service to improve the experience and outcomes for patients with alcohol dependency attending the acute hospital setting.

You will be an experienced RN, with a high standard of clinical knowledge, who is motivated to lead and support the team, building on your own clinical and managerial experience.

The successful candidate will be a role model for continuous professional behaviour and demonstrate the core values of the Trust. They will be able to show an enthusiastic approach and friendly manner towards patients, nurses and the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist knowledge and interventions for service users with alcohol dependency.

To support alcohol dependent service users through their treatment journey from beginning to end within the acute hospital setting.

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to reduce unplanned alcohol related admissions and attendances to the acute hospital setting.

To provide advice and support with medically assisted withdrawals within Princess Royal Hospital.

Showing commitment and direction to the team as a whole you will actively participate in the teaching, training and supervision of all grades of staff. You will be required to be receptive to change, be dynamic and demonstrate active assistance and support to your more senior colleagues in the ongoing development of the team.

You must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you will have a proactive management style, anticipating and dealing with issues constructively within the multidisciplinary team setting. You must be flexible in your approach to the role and respond appropriately to the demands of an ever-changing workload.

Person Specification

Professional /Technical Qualif


  • Registered Nurse
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development / Qualification relevant to Area of Speciality
  • Proven Maths and English GCSE/equivalent grades 4-9/equivalent

Experience and Knowledge


  • Extensive post registration experience in the relevant speciality or equivalent
  • High level clinical skills and knowledge
  • Evidence of successfully co-ordinating, managing and leading the team on a day to day basis.
  • Evidence of teaching
  • Evidence in undertaking preceptor / mentorship role.


  • Involvement in Nursing audit/research.
  • An awareness and understanding of policy and practice relevant to speciality.
