An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Safeguarding Children Team for Homerton Healthcare NHS Trust , for a Child Team Review Nurse

The post holder will be required to work in partnership with colleagues in the Waltham Forest, East London, Newham and Tower Hamlets, City and Hackney Child Death Review Partnership.

The post holder will focus on child deaths for children and young people who lived in the City of London and Hackney.

Key elements of the role 1. management of the child death review process, and supporting bereaved families.

Main duties of the job

  • Work closely with the Trust Designated Child Death Doctor (DCDr) WEL City and Hackney CDR Hub.
  • Evaluation carried out through feedback of the experience of the service from bereaved families, staff and using this information to improve service delivery.
  • Be a member of the Safeguarding Children Team.
  • To ensure that there are robust and effective arrangements within the trust in line with WELC Child Death Review Hub Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and NEL ICB service specification requirements.
  • Act as a single point of contact within the Homertonfor the management of information regarding child deaths.
  • Manage and co-ordinate the return of child death information from trust services
  • Analyse and summarise the main health and social factors identified in the information received from service

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications


  • First level registered nurse
  • Post graduate qualification in public health nursing e.g. health visiting or school nursing or paediatric nursing.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.

Skills/ Abilities


  • Ability to communicate in a variety of settings, to achieve co-operation and influence others including patients, families, carers and other health and social care professionals.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to presentations.
  • Ability to communicate difficult and sensitive information to wide range of audiences and get feedback to
  • Ability to development protocols and pathways.
  • Collating information and writing performance reports

Experience / Knowledge


  • Experience of teamwork and working with multi-agency teams in statutory and non-statutory organisations
  • Working knowledge of child death and processes and issues
  • Experience of working across organisational boundaries
  • Experience of working with and support bereaved individuals and families.
  • Experience of working without direct supervision but as part of a team.
  • Good understanding of the child death process as laid out in Working Together to Safeguarding children (2018) and statutory requirements of the Children Act (2004)
  • Experience of working across organisational boundaries
