Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse

Employer
Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust
Location
London
Salary
£34,089 to £41,498 a year pa inclusive
Closing date
12 Mar 2024
Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust was created on 1st October 2007 by merging St Mary's NHS Trust and Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust and integrating with Imperial College London Faculty of Medicine. Now the largest NHS Trust in the country, we have come together to establish the UK's first Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC).

We have an active paediatric research portfolio based within a dedicated and purpose-built Children's Clinical Research Facility (CCRF). The significant expansion of clinical research continues into all areas of children's services at Imperial, including food allergy, infectious diseases, haematology, paediatric emergency medicine, paediatric intensive care and neonatal intensive care.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5, Clinical Research Nurse, to join our CCRF team at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington. The post is funded for 1 year in the first instance. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are eager to get involved with delivering clinical research particularly in neonatal intensive care but also throughout children's services at Imperial.

The successful applicant will be part of a first class team delivering ongoing neonatal research and other studies. This role will involve assessing and managing care pathways for participants in research: including, recruitment, education and monitoring of research subjects, providing support for research participants and their families and the accurate collection and documentation of data. You will work collaboratively with colleagues in the research team and the wider multidisciplinary team, to support existing clinical trials and studies. You will also require a working knowledge and compliance with local, national and international research regulations including Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

Previous experience of working in neonatal or paediatric fields is essential. Experience in clinical research is desirable but is not essential. The role will be fully supported, with training provided to ensure patient safety and compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) to the highest level of excellence.

The post will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at an advanced level.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 5 paediatric research nurse for neonatal and paediatric studies you will contribute to the support and delivery of the specialist commercial and non-commercial neonatal and children's research studies, including FEED1, neoGASTRIC, NICCOM, NiGEL, and TLA4AE. You will be responsible for recruiting suitable participants into our studies and following through with the delivery of the study protocol in compliance with relevant clinical research governance. This full-time position involves a varied workload that covers St Mary's and Queen Charlotte's Hospital sites, where the neonatal units are located. The unexpected nature of the premature delivery of pre-term infants and/or admission of unwell term babies to the neonatal unit requires you to be organised but flexible to adapt to the needs of the study participants and their families. You will need to be empathetic and understanding of the priorities of the families and clinical staff based on the units. You will require a passion for improvement in neonatal and child healthcare and implementing exciting new innovations in clinical care, thereby making a positive difference to the standards of care for this vulnerable group of patients.
