Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an inspirational, enthusiastic midwife and leader, to manage a team of midwives and midwifery support workers who provide triage services within the maternity service.

This post is for a 12 month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave.

You will be supported by the Director and Head of Midwifery, the Matron team and the wider multidisciplinary team.

The post holder will need to have a high level of relevant expert knowledge and skills, to manage, develop and lead care in this area.

Qualifications/ Training

  • Current NMC registration as a midwife
  • Recognised management / leadership qualification
  • Commitment to professional development and evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) including cannulation.
  • Teaching qualification
  • Current driving licence and use of a car


Desirable

  • Post graduate degree at Master level or relevant experience
  • NLS trained
  • NIPE Qualification
  • QI Qualification
  • Prescribing Qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Qualified midwife with a minimum of 3 years' experience as a band 6 midwife
  • Evidence of experience of taking charge or managing a caseload and can demonstrate the ability to undertake 24 hour responsibility for the ward / department
  • Broad range of senior post qualification clinical experience
  • Experience of service development, leading and managing change
  • Evidence of change management experience
  • Experience of staff management / staff supervision
  • Conversant with NMC rules and code of governing practice
  • Knowledge of current reports/guidelines relating to Maternity Care and their implications
  • Experience with the collation and analysis of BR+ data or other data system to ensure safe staffing levels


Desirable

  • Experience of guideline and policy development and implementation
  • Experience in dealing with complaints and implementing lessons learned in the clinical setting
  • Experience of research or audit in clinical practice which has been used to improve care provided for patients
  • Experience of BSOTS pathway for maternity triage
