The post holder will be expected to be responsible for service improvement and professional development transforming clinical practice and services across the organisation. Working in collaboration with the Matrons, Heads of Services and frontline clinicians, the post holder will bring a transformational ethos to the quality of patient care and new ways of working.

Working as a change agent within the organisation wide multidisciplinary team in taking forward and shaping the future of clinical practice in the light of the local, national and professional agenda, the PDF will play a pivotal role in education provision.

The post holder will also be required to facilitate practice learning to the highest quality through teaching, assessing, evaluation, administration and practice-based work whilst supporting the organisation's Clinical Governance agenda.

The professional and practice development facilitator will be a proficient, approachable role model in addition to an expert clinician, with a proven track record of in service improvement.

To work closely with the Lead for Midwifery Education in planning and implementing programmes of education/training.

Main duties of the job

  • o Working closely with senior clinicians, support the development of non-medical workforce inservice and practice to improve the quality of practice and patient careo Work in partnership with senior clinicians in promoting a culture of continuous improvement anddevelopmento Lead the development of newly qualified nurses enhancing their clinical practice and ensuringthey have a strong grounding in positive Trust culture, behaviours and skills in compassionatecareo Develop and roll out comprehensive skills development programmes using innovative methodsand proactively addressing skills gaps as appropriateo Provide direct clinical expertise, advice and support to staff within the clinical area.o Work closely with the Matrons / Lead Nurses to facilitate and encourage personal andprofessional development of staffo In conjunction with senior clinical leads and other professionals develop and manage models forinter-professional and multi-professional learning opportunities with the division and its partnerorganisations.o In conjunction with senior managers, formulate practice and service improvement initiatives toimprove the quality of clinical practice and patient care within clinical areas encouraging apositive learning environment and actively encouraging innovation.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse/ Midwife with current NMC registration
  • Up to date with mentorship course
  • Educated to degree level
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Leadership qualification or an ability to demonstrate equivalent experience
  • Improvement methodology qualification or working towards


Desirable

  • Masters level education
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Education or Teaching qualification


Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • At least 5 years post-registration experience
  • Recent experience functioning as a mentor and trainer of junior staff
  • Experience of designing, facilitating and implementing suitable teaching programmes to meet training needs
  • Experience of multidisciplinary working
  • Awareness of current issues in the NHS nursing and midwifery practice and education
  • Robust clinical nursing and midwifery knowledge in emergency care
  • Knowledge and understanding of evidence based practice
  • Knowledge of service improvement methodologies and its application in the clinical area
  • Experience of staff management
  • Experience of conducting audits and change management
  • Demonstrable working knowledge in standard setting and quality management

  • Previous management experience

  • Experience working in Maternity services
