Eden Ward is a 20 bedded ward with 6 day case beds caring for gynaecology patients and other specialty patients. We care for patients on the day of their admission, pre operatively and manage the post- operative care of in patients along with gynaecological emergencies. We treat our patients with a multi-professional approach, ensuring that their dignity is at the forefront of the care we provide. We are looking for a senior nurse who can lead and motivate the team to deliver high quality care in what can sometimes be a very busy environment

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical leadership to a designated nursing team and ensure the provision of high quality nursing care to patients and carers.

To act as a role model and expert clinical practitioner

To assist in the safe, effective and efficient management of the department within allocated resources

To promote a progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through research and evidence based practice

The deputy Ward Sister will have delegated responsibility for the running of the unit in the absence of the manager in the following areas such staff recruitment and retention, delivery of care plans and risk assessments, medication management and the development of the service. Included in this role will be management and administration functions to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the unit.

You will need to exhibit management skills including:

Infection Prevention and Control Key performance indicators.

Nursing Matrices Confidence in Caring, Safety, Documentation, Nutrition and Tissue Viability.

Responding to incidents and complaints

Maximising attendance

Maximising staff compliance with mandatory training

Manage a team of staff including appraisal, performance management, team meetings.

Risk Management.

Management of budget.

Management and admin functions to ensure the smooth day to day running of the ward.

Ongoing professional development.
