Research and Innovation Business Support Manager (Band 6)

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Research and Innovation CSU and play a key role in supporting the development of the R& I business functions and the systems and processes that facilitate the effective running of all clinical trials in R& I and the Early Phase trials in the Leeds Clinical Research Facility (CRF). The post will be based at St James's University Hospital.

The post holder will provide business management support to central R& I, the CRF and research delivery teams within the Research and Innovation CSU and will work closely with the Clinical Research Facility, members of the Business Team, Research Delivery Teams, Research Finance, Research Governance, Research Assurances & Approvals Facilitation team, Grant Funding Development, Research Contracts, Business Development and Innovation and Real-World Data and Informatics, the Yorkshire and Humber Clinical Research Network, as well as the lead nurse team and other senior managers.

The post holder will have line management responsibility for designated staff.

The successful applicant will need to have a customer-focused approach, a high standard of interpersonal skills, be a self-starter and have an entrepreneurial mindset. They will need to be able to work in a matrix management environment across multiple teams to help deliver the Trusts ambitious strategic targets for Research and Innovation.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide business management support to central R& I, the CRF and research delivery teams within the Research and Innovation CSU with specific responsibility for:

Delegated responsibility for the Early Phase pay and non-pay budgets and supporting the financial management of other RSUs within the R& I CSU.

Setting up and managing finance trackers in Early Phase and, where required, other RSUs.

Provide forecasting information based on study income.

Supporting National Contract Value Reviews (NCVR), feasibility and project setup processes and financial approvals, embedding change to help streamline existing processes.

Assist in the performance management of research studies to ensure Recruitment to Time and Target (RTT) across research delivery teams.

Assist in the operational aspects of research portfolio oversight.

The post-holder will be educated to degree level or equivalent, or be able to demonstrate relevant experience commensurate with this post.

They would be expected to have experience of working in a research or clinical trials setting. Excellent communication skills and the ability to provide and receive complex information in relation to study design are essential for this role. Excellent organisational, negotiation and presentation skills are essential, as well as the ability to work on their own initiative and as a team player.

Essential Skills Include:

Relevant degree or equivalent or Project Management/Business Administration qualification

Experience of working within a research and/or clinical trials setting

Experience of staff supervision

Experience of managing research study finances

Experience of working with the Clinical Research Network to deliver Performance targets.

Evidence of advanced IT skills/training - the ability to use spreadsheets,

Information Governance Education Recognition Award or be willing to undertake training.

The ability to manage own workload.

Excellent organisational and communication skills are required.

Experience of dealing with highly complex situations

Experience of providing and receiving highly complex information

The ability to work effectively under pressure and maintain a professional attitude.

A willingness to undergo personal development and learn new skills

An understanding of the NHSE NCVR process and the CRN funding process

Excellent presentation skills

Knowledge of data protection issues

Working knowledge of and experience in the effective use of Microsoft Office software, including Excell and PowerPoint
