The role of Principal Practitioner Psychologist in Mental Health Liaison offers opportunities to work across clinical severity and a range of settings to provide high quality psychological care for those in crisis, as well as those who are experiencing a mental health need in the context of a physical health condition.

The role requires working across mental health and physical health multidisciplinary teams, being able to hold holistic care as the goal in supporting client needs. This role requires excellent communication skills to liaise with teams both in the acute and community setting in order to support smooth transitions.

Main duties of the job

  • To lead psychological provision in the mental health liaison service and supervise qualified and training psychologists, and MDT professionals as appropriate
  • To lead on service development with fellow mental health liaison leads to ensure that the service meets local needs and national objectives
  • To offer training and consultation to MDT professionals in mental health liaison and acute hospital staff as appropriate
  • To work as part of the Clinical Health Psychology service, engaging with peers to support each other and the shared vision for the directorate
  • Excellent communication skills and rapport building
  • Holding holistic views of clients need and sharing this with other professionals to support positive outcomes
  • To be mindful of language and process when working across settings to support psychological thinking and ethical practice

You will receive support from your Clinical Health Psychology colleagues in Mid, South and West Essex. Supervision will be provided by the Head of Clinical Health Psychology. There are direct peers in liaison in Basildon and Harlow. CPD is actively encouraged, through both internal and external means, as appropriate to post.

  • HCPC registered psychologist
  • Has worked as an 8a psychologist


Desirable

  • Has further training in a specific modality/course appropriate to post


Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Has worked in mental health settings in the NHS/or equivalent
  • Has worked in physical health settings in the NHS/or equivalent
  • Has worked in MDT settings
  • Has worked with clients in crisis or with highly emotive experiences
  • Has experience of supervising
  • Has experience of teaching/training


Desirable

  • Has worked in mental health liaison or simliar
  • Demonstrates understanding of trauma frameworks
  • Has service development experience
  • Has supervised qualified professionals
  • Has used a range of therapeutic models and demonstrates advances knowledge and skills in at least one


Engagement

Essential

  • Demonstrates a desire to work in mental health liasion settings
  • Demonstrates a desire to work with difference and diversity in all areas of work


Desirable

  • Has undertaken reading or courses in working in health settings or with related client group
