Full Time
To perform a wide range of ultrasound scans this could include renal, abdominal, DVT Doppler, gynaecological and some small parts according to Department Protocols, this excludes maternity services.

Maintain a high standard of clinical expertise and care for the patient.

Scan and independently report own workload of patients, providing written reports to the referring clinician.

Participate in research, audit, quality control as part of the wider healthcare team as required.

Main duties of the job

Main duties include:
  • Ultrasound scanning
  • Vetting and protocolling of requests
  • Dealing with referrer clinical queries regarding referrals or reports
  • teaching registrars/ trainee US staff
  • directing RDAs as required
  • Supporting training of new RDAs
  • Reporting audit
  • support updating of local documentation pertaining to US
  • Basic QA of equipment

Person Specification



  • Ultrasound qualification
  • Previous quality experience (audit etc)
  • teaching



  • willingness to learn new skills for service needs (DVT/FB demo)
  • good communication skills with patients and staff
  • empathetic and professional approach to patients/ referrers/ peers


  • willingness to undertake further training to higher level
