Are you driven and professionally skilled in engaging, assessing and helping to navigate patients that sometimes can be difficult-to-engage, complex and risky?

Are you determined, can-do and resourceful to help support the urgent care pathway team as part of the wider NHS OP Courage services , supporting veterans and their families at times of mental health crisis? Working and supporting those struggling with substance misuse difficulties.

Are you team-playing, initiative-taking, persuasive and robust? This is an exciting opportunity to join the recently rebranded OP Courage, bringing together all the three elements of NHS mental healthcare for our veterans,

This service was previously called the Veteran High Intensity Service ( now OpCourage) urgent pathway

Main duties of the job

Engaging, assessing and helping to navigate patients that sometimes can be difficult-to-engage, complex and risky. Working with veterans with substance misuse difficulties and their families in times of crisis across the West Midlands region.

Liaising with other NHS services and third sector agencies to ensure collaborative working across the patch.

You will be joining a team of highly committed people from the Midlands OpCourage non-urgent and treatment pathway who are all dedicated to the cause and working to provide the kind of service that you would want for your own loved ones all with the right spirit of fun, camaraderie and trust in each other.

Leading and supporting the team, specifically around the area of substance misuse and linking in with the other substance misuse practitioners across the region.

Together we can go further to ensuring that the NHS fulfils its commitment and picks up and responds to the particular needs of veterans and their families. You will work within the team, covering a wide geographical area from a satellite base in Rugby.

First-hand experience or knowledge of veterans mental health or working within the military community and is essential.

Substance misuse background is essential for this position

Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge/Understanding of Armed Forces and the mental health needs of veterans and their families
  • Experience of working with individuals in crisis and skills that are transferable to both community/in-patient
  • Experience of working with people with severe and enduring mental illnesses
  • Experience of working within substance misuse service or with substance misuse clients in MH setting
  • Evidence of continuing professional development


Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Sound knowledge of national agenda for mental health.
  • Highly developed clinical reasoning skills.
  • Sound knowledge of clinical/risk assessment and understanding of Information Goverance principles.
  • Highly developed communication skills.
  • Delegation whilst maintaining overall responsibility for patients care, where appropriate
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead a clinical team
  • Highly motivated & able to engage with service users & carers to improve outcomes.


Qualifications

Essential

  • Current Registered Professional
  • Evidence of specialised continued professional training (degree level) in clinical practice
