The role is a key part of our technical team and will report to the Integration Architect and work alongside other members of the technical team as well as the broader EPR team. It is an exciting time to join as the role will be involved in innovative development projects and a large rollout to a third regional Trust.
Main duties of the job
To be a lead specialist in the Technical Elements of the Cerner Millennium EPR performing daily maintenance and providing regular peer support to others in the EPR team.
Assisting the Integration Architect with overall domain management for Millennium EPR for both Acute Trusts.
Responsible for daily, weekly and monthly compliance checks against the Cerner Millennium recommended compliance rate against patches/fixes and updates.
Responsible for software and its maintenance which enables colleagues to use the system and to ensure its optimum performance i.e. reviewing interfaces and ops job etc.
The work pattern can be unpredictable during maintenance, upgrades and unforeseen outages which can require prolonged periods of concentrating to provide a prompt support process and return to optimum system running.

- Maintaining a good level of system compliance. This covers performance checks (ensuring all purges and operational jobs are running successfully to maintain optimal performance of the back-end database) along with solution checks (to ensure each solution meets supplier requirements and to take independent action to resolve any failures). The system is measured against supplier metrics to give a domain rating. Failed checks offer guidance on how to fix the issue.
- Working with colleagues at both trusts to ensure system access is secure and fit for purpose and that roles are maintained and/or adapted to keep up with an evolving workforce (new clinical roles are developing all the time and new ways of working are being agreed). This is to ensure appropriate security, minimise data governance breaches and ensure operation within professional guidelines).
- Building up an understanding of areas of work undertaken by the other roles within the technical team (as outlined below).
- Clinical Systems Interfaces in the Trust Integration Engine. This includes general interface monitoring, management, troubleshooting and resolution alongside the Integration Specialist and provision for new projects/clinical systems that require additional interfacing.
- Keeping up to date with new interface technologies e.g. FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources), CCL (Cerner Custom Language) and MPage development.
- Gaining an understanding of the Cerner data model and how that be applied to custom development. This is working with the current CCL/MPage developer to build in resilience.
- Maintaining an established working partnership with the supplier (Oracle Cerner).
- To be available when needed to work out of hours when Cerner are carrying out maintenance work. This will involve troubleshooting testing and validating to ensure no negative impact on the overall Domain/System.
- There may be potential to work as part of an on-call function.
- To offer resilience for the technical team as required.ie deputising for the Integration Architect and being proficient in all areas of interfacing and development undertaken by the broader Technical Team.
- Provide support and advice to colleagues within the wider EPR back office team.
- To undertake any training necessary for the safe and efficient performance of duties. and provide support and training within the peer group.
- Investigate, diagnose, resolve complicated/complex queries made of several components, where there are several options analyses user requirements which may require configuration of software and solutions. Examples of this include the analysis of upgrading and/or maintaining components and packages for the joint EPR, assessing organisational and clinical impact by engaging relevant stakeholders choosing the most appropriate solution.
- Plan and organise straightforward activities, some ongoing Plan and organise complex activities or programmes, requiring regular checking and adjustment.to ensure the system provides optimal performance.

- Specialist knowledge and expertise acquired through degree level/post-registration diploma or equivalent experience.
- IT Service management qualification

- Must have a post-registration diploma level.
- A high level of understanding of software development with specific experience with an electronic patient record. (Cerner preferred).
- Able to demonstrate the ability set out work priorities and operate at your discretion within defined parameters
- Advanced level IT skills e.g. Database Management, Understanding Programming language and tools and interface Management Systems.
- Interface with internal/external stakeholders in designing/adapting requirements in line with specification
- Demonstrate a structured and logical approach to complex problem solving and working practices in interface and domain performance issues.
- A solid understanding of Cerner Millennium and/or EPR systems gained through formal supplier training and attending appropriate study days and working in the specialist area
