Following recent successful business cases we are looking to recruit additional staff into the Critical Care and Surgery Team at Wexham Park Hospital. We are very excited to have the opportunity to further develop the senior leadership within the Critical care and Surgical team.

This clinical lead position offers the exciting prospect of leading the development of the surgical service whilst still having critical care case load working collaboratively with a well-established team. This will include inpatient work in Critical Care, Surgical Acute Dependency Unit, General Surgery, ENT, and with opportunities to contribute to prehabilitation within the trust.

The successful applicant will work closely with our Critical Care Team Lead and cross site APP for Critical Care. Our ITU has 16 beds and we have recently expanded services and operate a Critical Care Follow up Service.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the Surgical areas the team covers and implementing service improvement in these areas. They would also link with their cross site counterparts to develop enhanced recovery pathways and prehabilitation.

Main duties of the job

This post holder will lead, develop and evaluate surgical physiotherapy services, and assist the team lead to oversee critical care at Wexham Park Hospital.

They will provide therapeutic clinical expertise, high quality advice and support to the multi-disciplinary team. Clinical supervision, appraisal and teaching will be key components of this role.

They will demonstrate excellent communication and collaborative working, along with other clinical specialists across the Trust, in order to provide a high quality, efficient service.

In conjunction with the Principal, APP and Team Lead they will ensure clinical governance targets are met, including the development of clinical standards and protocols, specialist evidence based practice, audit, research, clinical and non-clinical risk management.

  • At Band 6 level - in relevant clinical area within an acute health care setting.
  • Comprehensive post graduate experience in the following clinical areas, General Medicine, Orthopaedics, Surgical/ICU, Elderly Care, Neuro,
  • Training and supervision to support all physiotherapy staff and students.
  • Experience of audit.


  • Development of a project or service.
  • Leadership - first line management



  • HCPC Registration
  • Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy.
  • Evidence of managerial training
  • Knowledge of evidence based practice.
  • Demonstrate understanding & involvement of Clinical Governance and risk assessment.
  • Broad knowledge of health legislation.
  • Educators training
