Are you a Band 6 midwife who has been qualified for over 2 years with a passion for Antenatal care?

Are you experienced in taking charge of a shift?

If so, we are looking for enthusiastic midwives with a keen interest in antenatal care, to join our core antenatal team.

Clinical experience in all aspects of midwifery care is a prerequisite, demonstrating credibility as a good role model. Excellent communication and support skills are paramount to the success of the role.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a band 6 midwife
  • You will provide leadership and support on a shift-by-shift basis on the antenatal ward to support safe care.
  • Through effective clinical leadership and role modelling, you will inspire, motivate and empower others.
  • You will be involved with embedding our high standards of woman centred antenatal care and advocate for women
  • At all times to work in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Participate in the Trusts Strategy for Midwifery.
  • Maintain at all times the highest standard of midwifery care for patients and their family. Ensuring that all members of the team receive adequate support.
  • Being conversant with all Trust midwifery guidelines
  • Maintaining an efficient reporting system so that effective communication is established between medical and midwifery staff ensuring confidentiality at all times.
  • Being aware of Clinical Governance procedures and documentation for reporting any incidents that may occur.
  • Being aware of all Health and Safety policies maintaining the safety of staff and patients at all times.
  • Promoting good public relations with the multidisciplinary team and the public.
  • Checking administering and witnessing the administration of drugs. Being conversant with the Trust Policies relating to reporting any discrepancies found.
  • Contribute to continual review and development of standards

Person Specification



  • At least 2 years' experience as a qualified midwife.
  • Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development demonstrated through a Professional Portfolio.
  • Recent experience of managing the care of women in the ante-natal periods.
  • Confidant with all induction of labour processes including insertion of Cookes balloons.
  • Competent in use of IT packages such as Microsoft Word, excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience of managing and mitigating risks
  • Evidence of multi-disciplinary and partnership working
  • Evidence of diplomacy and negotiation skills

Interpersonal skills


  • Flexible approach to work
  • Able to effectively manage work-based stressful situations, both in self and others - liaising with managers and outside agencies when appropriate



  • Registered Midwife
  • Degree in relevant subject
  • Knowledge of key legislation, National reports and documentation
  • Mentorship training


  • Masters or working towards masters in related subject
  • NIPE
