The Women's Health Unit houses the 8 bedded labour ward and has a delivery rate of 2300 per annum. There is a dedicated Theatre within the labour ward and also facilities for water births. A 24-hour epidural service is available and a dedicated Consultant Anaesthetist. There is a well-equipped ante-natal clinic with 3 ultrasound rooms and a Day Assessment Unit. There is an Obstetric ward with a transitional care Baby Unit. Team midwifery based in the community is well established and approximately 5% of the deliveries are out of hospital births.

We house the Gynaecology Clinic, which has facilities for Colposcopy and Minimal Invasive Surgery. There is a separate fully equipped Urodynamic Unit. We provide a Termination Service with the Support of the Sexual Health Service. There is an Early Pregnancy Service and separate Fertility Clinics.

Main duties of the job

This post designed to support the Middle Grade Rota. The Successful Candidate will be supported in developing independent competence.

About us

Torbay Hospital is approximately two miles from the centre of Torquay and all facilities are concentrated on the one site. The original hospital was built in 1928. More recently, major capital programmes have seen improvements in facilities for Cancer, Imaging, the Emergency Department and the opening of the Torbay Cardiac Centre. There has been significant capital investment in improvements in clinical areas and creation of significantly more single room accommodation. A young person's unit is sited adjacent to the children's inpatient facilities. The hospital is well supported by its League of Friends.

  • Full GMC registration with license to practice
  • Minimum of 2 years Post Graduate Experience in oMinimum of 2 years Post Graduate Experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
