  • For consideration into an ITU area (PICU, NICU or CICU) you must be able to demonstrate relevant skills and experience from your clinical placements.
  • Please choose which cohort you want to be considered for: October 2024 or January 2025.

Cohort start dates are 7th October 2024 and 6th January 2025.

Interviews will be held week commencing 15th April 2024.

All applicants will be expected to satisfy the following conditions:
  • You must obtain your nursing qualification by your selected date to commence in post.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as a skilled member of the nursing team, to provide a high standard of holistic family centered care to the children, young people and families.
  • Ability to promote family centered care and establish good relationships with children, young people and their families.
  • To communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To be able to take charge of the ward in the absence of senior nursing staff following achievement of required competence.
  • To be familiar with and adopt the principles of the NHS Chief Nursing Officers vision for Compassion in Practice (NHS Commissioning Board Dec 2012).

Education & Qualifications


  • NMC Child Registered Nurse
  • Relevant nursing qualification
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development linked to demonstrable competencies


  • Assessor or practice supervisor qualification/experience

  • Experience of having worked with acute/chronically sick children or specialised transferable skills
  • Understanding of professional and current issues in children's nursing
  • Understanding of the importance of research and evidence-based practice
  • Basic knowledge of computer skills

  • Understanding or evidence of fulfilling requirements for Revalidation
