We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, innovative band 7 Highly Specialist Cardiac Physiologist with an interest in echocardiography . Main duties of the job

  • To independently perform and report transthoracic echocardiograms on a wide range on inpatients and outpatients.
  • Triaging patient requests and prioritising workload appropriately.
  • Training and supervising student echocardiographers and cardiology registrars
  • Assist in complex echocardiography procedures, such as stress echo, TOE, contrast and bubble studies.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Independently perform and report echocardiograms in a timely manner on a wide range of inpatients and outpatients.
  • Assist in complex echocardiography procedures, such as stress echo, TOE, contrast and bubble studies.
  • Undertake a number of cardiac diagnostic tests where necessary, including holter monitoring and analysis, exercise tolerance testing and ECGs.
  • Participate in weekly MDT meetings and discuss case studies where relevant.
  • Actively participate in audit and peer review.


Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc Clinical Physiology or HNC/MPPM
  • British Society of Echocardiography Adult Accreditation
  • RCCP/AHCS registration
  • ILS certificate


Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification
  • Assessors qualification
  • SCST part 1 & 2
  • Other relevant Cardiac Physiology accreditation


Knowledge

Essential

  • Demonstrates knowledge within the field of echocardiography, including current guidelines and practice
  • Knowledge of a wide range of procedures and techniques.
  • Awareness of current thinking/issues within the NHS and Diagnostic communities.
  • Knowledge of clinical conditions which may be encountered in area of work.
  • Demonstrates awareness of limits to knowledge base.
  • Demonstrates understanding of accountability
  • Awareness of responsibilities regarding health and safety
  • Knowledge and understanding of reflective practice and continuing professional development.


Experience

Essential

  • At least 3 years working as a Specialist Cardiac Physiologist in echocardiography
  • Experience of more complex echocardiography, including stress echo, transoesophageal echo, contrast & bubble studies.
  • Experience of a range of cardiorespiratory equipment
  • Experience of working single handed or in a small team.


Desirable

  • Experience in paediatric or congenital echocardiography
  • Experience using a range of echo machines from different manufacturers
  • Experience within invasive cardiology


Skills

Essential

  • Competent IT skills e.g. word processing, email, databases.
  • Effective verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills including communicating factual information to patients / carers.
  • Basic risk assessment skills.
  • Demonstrates relevant manual handling skills essential for the role.


Desirable

  • Experience using a range of echo reporting software
