An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our community paediatric Occupational Therapy team based at the Newberry Child Development Centre. We are looking for a positive, proactive clinician, to help us build a strong future for therapy and increase the profile of Occupational Therapy within the service. Come join our forward thinking, committed Paediatric Occupational Therapy Team who place patient care and your personal and professional development to the forefront. You will have your own clinical caseload, providing targeted and specialist assessments and interventions to a wide range of children and young people. You will also provide clinical support to team members and students, as well as assist in their training and development. You will play a role in service development working with the Paediatric leadership team.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 6 Paediatric Occupational Therapist, you will be responsible for managing your own caseload consisting of patients with a variety of different conditions, whilst supporting/training other team members to manage their own caseloads. Good prioritisation, organisation and time management skills will be required to balance clinical duties. You will need advanced communication skills to ensure a successful multidisciplinary approach to patient care, working in close liaison with Education and other professions including the Neurodevelopmental and Physiotherapy teams. You will be in regular discussions with children, young people and their families, as well as other health, education and social care professionals. You will be responsible for other non-clinical duties such as in-service development ideas, training/supervision of students, and therapy assistant practitioners.

Education and Qualifications


  • Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy (BSc/MSc)
  • Current HCPC registration
  • CPD record should include evidence of up-to-date manual handling, relevant clinical courses and reflections of learning
  • Undertaken a student/fieldwork educators course


  • Member of a special interest group

Experience and Knowledge


  • Band 5 experience which includes relevant work in a variety of child and young people's services, including paediatrics
  • Experience of working with a range of professionals within multidisciplinary teams
  • Evidence of acting in a supervisory manner, providing specialist guidance, training and support to other staff or students
  • Evidence of reflective learning
  • Awareness of relevant professional practice, new research and guidelines
  • Understanding of legal issues, Safeguarding and mental capacity
  • Working knowledge of clinical governance and implications for own work


  • Experience at band 6 level
  • Involvement in service improvement/ project work
  • Audit
