The post holder will provide a professional and proactive service to patients referred on a 62-day cancer pathway for a suspected gynaecological cancer. The post holder will act as a point of contact for patient's, carers and the wider healthcare team in relation to the co-ordination of their pathway to help support the Cancer Waiting Times Targets in a timely and supportive fashion.

Main duties of the job

The Pathway Navigator for Cancer will ensure that the pathway is co-ordinated efficiently and effectively in order to support the delivery of the Cancer 28-Day Fast Diagnosis Pathway standard and help support the production of data for national peer review, Trust finances and medical publication.
  • To co-ordinate the site-specific patient pathway for the Trust, with a high level of planning and organisational skills
  • To track and expedite patients' care pathways to ensure all cancer waiting time standards are effectively met

Person Specification



  • Educated to NVQ level 4 in business / administration or equivalent level of experience and knowledge
  • Extensive and demonstrable knowledge and experience (to at least RSA level 3 or equivalent) of the full range of administrative systems, software programmes to include all Microsoft applications (word, excel, access, email).
  • Evidence of continued professional development to Degree level or equivalent level of experience and knowledge
  • ECDL or equivalent IT qualification or relevant knowledge and experience


  • Evidence of relevant ongoing study



  • Experience of working without supervision and as part of a team, pro-actively and effectively managing your own workload to meet constricting targets/deadlines
  • Previous experience of working within a multidisciplinary environment
  • Experience of hospital specific administration systems
  • Previous involvement with data collection systems
  • To have experience of service improvement work
  • Previous business administration or customer care experience


  • Experience of Cancer Services within the NHS
  • Previous experience of working within the NHS
