Advanced Practitioner MSK - Full or Part time roles available

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team of Advanced Practitioners at the MSK Coastal Assessment Service. We are looking for staff with experience at advanced practice level in MSK, in upper quadrant, wrist and hand/ Spinal specialism as well as anybody interested in carrying out work in our First Contact Practitioner (FCP) service.

Are you an enthusiastic, motivated Advanced Practitioner (AP), passionate about delivering excellent clinical management to patients presenting to MSK services? The AP role within MSK Coastal enables candidates to build a portfolio role, with options to take part in First Contact Physiotherapy, MSK interface triage, advanced MSK assessment /treatment and rehabilitation. The role will also support in the clinical supervision and development of staff within our integrated MSK services. Candidates should be open to working across the Coastal West Sussex Region, we operate clinics at a number of satellite sites and local GP practices, as well as Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The right candidate will be expected to deliver a high standard of patient-centred care, with a compassionate, friendly and approachable attitude, excellent team-working, communication and organisational skills.

The successful candidate will support the development and promotion of a positive and dynamic culture. You will be required to provide support and training to clinical staff and students.

Your application should demonstrate evidence of advanced/extended skill, with extensive experience of MSK physiotherapy. This may include experience with advanced physiotherapy skills, investigations, making referrals, injection therapy, independent prescribing , ultrasonography or working in primary care.

Job responsibilities

-To accept responsibility for a designated clinical caseload with a range of complex musculoskeletal conditions (including patients with long term conditions, co-morbidities and multi-factorial needs).-To demonstrate specialist physical skills inclusive of dexterity, co-ordination and sensory skills to carry out physiotherapy assessment and intervention including manual physiotherapy techniquesand therapeutic handling.-Take a lead role in the comprehensive assessment of patients presenting with complex acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions utilising advanced practice and clinical reasoning skills.-Determine diagnosis and formulate individualised management and treatment plans, using a wide range of treatment skills / options to formulate a specialised and progressive programme of care.-Participate in the screening, assessment and referring of patients to other services through the triage process.-Maintain and develop own clinical and professional knowledge, skills and competence.-To manage risk in unpredictable, uncertain situations to uphold patient safety, including by referring onto other team members and to specialist services, as needed.-Participate in benchmarking and audit activities as an essential part of developing clinical effectiveness, monitoring professional standards and lead by example in the process of developing, implementing and maintaining clinical standards within area.

  • HCPC registered


  • member of professional body



  • post graduate experience at ESP level
  • Experience in contribution of clinical education of other practitioners, students and colleagues


  • audit/ evaluation experience
  • Experience working alongside medical consultants
  • participation in research



  • BSc in Physiotherapy/ Occupational Therapy/ Osteopathy
  • Evidence of relevant MSK post graduate level qualification/ study e.g. MSc, SOM, MACP
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD/ post graduate courses relevant to MSK


  • Experience in Advanced MSc Qualification with evidence in research methods
  • involved with special interest groups
  • Evidence of teaching at multi-professional level
  • FCP specific training and development undertaken
