An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to lead our South East Essex Wheelchair Service. Part of the South East Essex Community Health Services, the service is based in Southend, and offers assessment and provision of wheelchairs and accessories to people of all ages who have a long term mobility need.
Main duties of the job
You will have responsibility for the operational management of the Wheelchair Service, including aspects of budget, contract and business management. The team consists of therapists, assistants and clerical support staff.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to hold a small complex clinical caseload as appropriate.
You will be working with the team on service development and transformation initiatives, be part of reviewing the effectiveness of provision, and engage in working together with other teams to consistently improve wheelchair and special seating services.
You will need to have experience of leadership, management and development, preferably in a wheelchair service.

Job responsibilities
To lead, support and co-ordinate the activities of the Wheelchair Service and Specialist Seating Team, comprising of Therapists, Technical Instructors and Administrative staff.
To have management and operational responsibility for the delivery of these services.
This requires the service to be delivered within available resources, to specified volumes and quality standards in line with contract requirements, Clinical Governance arrangements and NHS Standards.
The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring that the service provided is of the highest standard, efficiently delivered and effectively controlled within budget.
To ensure individuals manage their clinical caseloads effectively and that workloads are managed and allocated appropriately to demand capacity and skills mix across the team.
To ensure an efficient and responsive service, maintaining appropriate waiting times from referral to assessment and the provision of prescribed resources.
To enable the staff group to work together, utilising diverse skills and knowledge, to maximise benefits to the clients and provide integrated service delivery.
To provide a high quality, needs led service focused on client satisfaction, ensuring that clients are involved in service planning and improvement, and that meaningful staff and user involvement is promoted.
To promote a person-centred service, through the effective co-ordination of clinic activity, from referral through assessment appointments, to prescription of wheelchairs and accessories.
To ensure Therapists and Technicians identify and co-ordinate key tasks and priorities in their work, in order to optimise the planning and management of their work and quality of service delivery to clients.
To develop other Service Level Agreements (SLAs), in accordance with therequirements of the service.
To ensure effective and flexible cover arrangements to maintain clinical service delivery during clinic hours, annual leave, absence and vacancies, including organising temporary staff where required within budgetary constraints.
To performance manage, identify and adapt system to provide service delivery as appropriate. To work with the Associate Director to monitor the SLA activity levels and in conjunction with the Finance and Commissioning Department, ensure that optimum benefits for the Service are realised.
To work with the Administrative Lead to support the administrative support team working with the Wheelchair Service, to maintain and develop clear and efficient administrative processes.
