The Tritech and Innovation division (part of the Research and Innovation Department, Hywel Dda UHB) aims to identify new, unmet clinical needs and translate these into innovative medical technologies to benefit patients, staff and the wider health economy. Our in house research & Innovation team has a track record of working with companies to support clinical investigations, service evaluations and provide detailed knowledge of the UK's regulatory requirements.

The post holder will be a key member of the team, and will be expected to work without supervision, developing and problem solving on a wide range of projects involving highly complex innovative medical devices and general innovations in health. The range of assigned tasks will be carried out with the highest standard to support the Department's research and innovation agenda, which reflects the quality of standards and mission of the team.

Main duties of the job

The Research & Innovation Assistant will work under the direction of one of the clinical scientist post within Tritech. They will be expected to be part of a wider team in the delivery of a variety of evaluations and clinical investigations relating to the development of new technologies and devices or general innovations impacting on health. The Research and innovation Assistant will be responsible for recruiting and consenting patients, conducting in-depth interviews, organising and delivering questionnaire and survey work and all manner of general data collection. In addition the role will involve helping to analyse different forms of data and contribute to the production of high quality written reports and outputs for both internal and external partners. They will be responsible for fulfilling a study co-ordination role, liaising with sites recruiting into clinical investigations and studies, collating data and responding to study related queries. For certain projects this may include trial coordination, maintaining trial site files and organising patient trial visits maintaining associated records. In addition the Research and innovation Assistant will be expected to take on certain administrative roles (meeting organisation, minute/note taking etc) as part of the role.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

This health board-wide and externally facing post will also be tasked with helping to deliver several important research & innovation projects and representing the Health Board in working with academia, pharma and industry and the third sector to increase Innovation within Hywel Dda University Health Board. Success will ultimately be measured by the research activity generated, impact on patient outcomes, and income generated to support the ongoing viability of the Tritech and Innovation division .

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in appropriate subject
  • Certificate in ICH Good Clinical Practice.

  • Masters in appropriate subject


Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of research in an NHS or university healthcare environment.
  • Experience of clinical research, including ethical processes and health and safety
  • Experience of recruiting and consenting patients
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office packages
  • Previous experience of effective team working.


Desirable

  • Evidence of publications and research dissemination
  • Experience of working with patients
  • Experience in qualitative/quantitative research and analysis


Other

Desirable

  • Ability to travel to different locations within the Health Board in a timely manner.
