We have an opportunity for you!We are seeking for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Pharmacist with excellent communication skills to join our Cancer Pharmacy Team at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (TRFT). As a Senior Cancer Pharmacist you will ensure that the delivery of chemotherapy is safe, effective and in a timely manner. The Cancer Pharmacists at TRFT are well integrated into all aspects of cancer services (Haematology/Oncology) including ward pharmacy activities, day unit responsibilities and form an integral part of the clinical team with attendance to weekly multidisciplinary meetings and daily consultant ward rounds on our inpatient ward.

Main duties of the job

We are committed to keeping our patients safe when we use systemic anticancer treatments (SACT) and supportive therapies, and we deliver this commitment strategically through the Chemotherapy Committee.The role of the successful candidate will include: Working with members of the multi-disciplinary throughout the hospital to support SACT patients Work independently as a Pharmacist prescriber to support Haematology and Oncology patients. Ensure safe and effective provision of Clinical Pharmacy services to Haematology and Oncology patients at both outpatient and inpatient levels Ensure oral SACT patients receive appropriate counselling and support with their medication Act as a role model for junior Pharmacists/Pharmacy Technicians to assist in education and training initiatives. Ensuring time critical medicines are in the right place at the right time Taking detailed medication histories and performing medicines optimisation Education and training of other Health Care Professionals Training of junior members of the Pharmacy Department Support the research and development portfolio with the Pharmacy Department Governance AuditIf you are looking for a new challenge and want to work in the constantly changing and progressively challenging area of chemotherapy, we are interested in talking to you.

Person Specification



  • Significant post-registration hospital pharmacy experience in oncology/haematology
  • Previous participation in multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of national initiatives and guidelines E.g. NICE, NSF.
  • Possesses knowledge of available resources to answer Medicines Information queries.
  • Able to work with drug budget information.
  • To undertake Continuing Professional Development as required for registration.


  • Ability to manage budgets and deliver on cost improvement programmes.
  • Previous involvement in clinical trials.



  • 4 year vocational Masters degree in pharmacy (or equivalent)
  • Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Post- Graduate in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience
  • Willingness to work towards non-medical prescribing qualification


  • Independent Prescribing Qualification
  • Experience with SACT prescribing system CHEMOCARE
  • Membership to BOPA (British Oncology Pharmacy Association)



  • Presenting complex information to groups and individuals.
  • Extensive post-qualification experience working as a clinical pharmacist.
  • Evidence of further learning relevant to job role.


  • Experience as a prescriber.
  • Experience of teaching/presenting to other healthcare professionals/patients.
