The Research and Innovation Centre at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre has an exciting Job Share Opportunity as a Band 7 Advanced Research practitioner.

The Primary aim of this post is to bring about greater access for research in order to provide a unique and enviable framework to enhance delivery of world class research.

They will embark on a programme of dual training for both Oncology and Hematology systemic anticancer treatments. They must be motivated and willing to undergo training in the Hematology and chemotherapy fields.

As an Advanced Research practitioner, you will be responsible for supporting the senior management team in ensuring that our service users' needs are met through the delivery of high-quality care. As a center of excellence, you will offer a person-centeredapproach to their independence and well-being.

You will have a dual base location at CCC Liverpool and CCC wirral

As we deliver treatments in sector hubs and clinics across Liverpool and Aintree, there will be an element of cross cover required during training and once training has been completed. This will include travelling to all of our peripheral sites:
  • CCC Liverpool
  • CCC Wirral

Main duties of the job

The Primary aim of this post is to bring about greater access for research in order to provide a unique and enviable framework to enhance delivery of world class research.

The post holder will be a Registered General Nurse and most maintain an NMC registration .

The successful candidate will act as an advanced autonomous practitioner, supporting patients on Commercial, Non-Commercial and Experimental Cancer Medicines (ECMC) clinical trials.

In doing so will demonstrate a high level of practice and knowledge, working as a key member of the multi- disciplinary team providing professional and clinical support in the care of patients on clinical trials.

The Advanced Nurse Practitioner will provide expert care and treatment to patients within agreed trials protocol and clinical guidelines. Functions in a variety of role dimensions: health care provider, educator, supervisor to junior staff, researcher, auditor, clinical advocate and implementer of research and clinical governance.

The post holder is employed and managed by Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, but will be required to travel across a number of NHS trusts within Merseyside and Cheshire. Regular travel will be expected between CCC Wirral, Liverpool and Aintree sites.

Employees must be aware of and accept the requirement to work at other sites across the Clinical Network within reason. Any changes will be subject to consultation with the post holder.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Responsibility to ensure all nursing care is carried out as determined by the trials protocol and individual patients treatment plan.
  • Responsibility to ensure SACT treatment assessments are regularly updated reflecting evidence-based practice.
  • Responsibly for ensuring eligibility is determined and signed of by the principal investigator.
  • Responsibility to ensure all assessment have been complete and reported prior to randomisation of a patient per protocol.
  • Responsibility to provide accurate information to PI, sponsors and patients and relatives regarding treatment and side effects.
  • Responsibility to ensures accurate data is transcribe on to patient case report forms in line with protocol time frames
  • Responsibility to ensure that all patient information is collected and documented accurately and in real time, during a span of duty and protocol timelines.
  • Responsibility to work as an autonomous practitioner as well as part of a team.
  • Responsibility to provide accurate reports both verbally and electronically.
  • Responsibility to ensure that all nursing policies, procedures and protocols within the clinical environment are adhered to.
  • Responsibility for the safe handling and administration of all SACT, supportive treatments and blood products according to policy and protocol.
  • Responsibility to work across the Directorates sector hub model to ensure safe staffing levels.
  • Responsibility to ensure that all radiation guidelines are adhered to.
  • Responsibility to ensure compliance with all Infection, Prevention and Control policies are strictly adhered to.
  • Responsibility in collaboration with the senior nursing team to make treatment and or deferral decisions based on the patients SACT assessment, presentation and blood results in line with protocol.
  • Responsibility to escalate any patient safety issues to include safeguarding concerns to the relevant teams.
  • Responsibility to inform the appropriate medical teams and sponsors regarding any change in a patients treatment pathway.
  • Responsibility in collaboration with the senior nursing team to make treatment and or deferral decisions based on the patients SACT assessment, presentation and blood results.
  • Responsibility to recognise and priorities workload within the limits of your competencies, role and responsibilities.


Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Good standard of education to minimum GCSE level or equivalent
  • GCP trained


Desirable

  • Educated to degree level


Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Good understanding of Good Clinical Practice and the regulatory environment that surrounds clinical research
  • Evidenced ability to work with Multidisciplinary teams


Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrated ability of prioritising workload and working to deadlines


Desirable

  • Experience of setting up clinical trials and attending Site Initiation Visits
  • Management experience
  • Previous experience working within an R & I environment


Key Skills and Attributes
