An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated full or part time substantive Consultant Clinical Lead Dermatologist at Barnsley Hospital. You will be joining a friendly supportive team of Consultants, Specialty Doctors, Junior Medical Staff, Allied Health Professionals and a Specialist Nursing team.

The Role as clinical lead will allow the successful candidate to work together with the Service Manager and Matron in shaping the future of Dermatology Service at Barnsley Hospital. You will have shared responsibility for the operational performance, clinical quality and resource management of the service, providing leadership and management.

Main duties of the job

Be responsible for the planning, delivery and improvement of clinical care in Dermatology at Barnsley Hospital,

Liaise with other Health Care Organisations, Social Services, General Practitioners and Voluntary Organisations as required

Contribute to the teaching of other grades of staff, both within and outside the department, including medical staff and nurses.

Carry out medical teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required.

Participate in the formal appraisal of junior medical staff

Demonstrate continuing improvements to the quality of service provided within the framework of the Trusts Clinical Governance arrangements.

Contribute towards the achievement of the Trust's corporate objective/strategic direction

Contribute to the management process

Be responsible for maintaining an up-to-date service

Advise medical, nursing, managerial and other colleagues on appropriate matters.

With colleagues, accepting equal responsibility for ensuring that an appropriate level of cover is maintained within the department during periods of absence/leave.

Job responsibilities

We are looking to recruit a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to work as a Consultant Clinical Lead Dermatologist at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust is happy to consider flexible working arrangements and or extended days to deliver a desirable work life balance, support professional goals and personal development.

As the Clinical Lead for the service the postholder will be jointly responsible for ensuring that the service operates fully within the overall objectives and policies of the Trust and within objectives, targets, quality standards, controls and resource constraints as agreed with the Director of Operations/Associate Director of Operations

The clinical lead will work together with the Service Manager and Matron in providing leadership and management and will have shared responsibility for the operational performance, clinical quality and resource management of the service. They will be responsible for ensuring a positive patient experience backed up by a robust governance process for managing and continually improving services.

An exciting opportunity exists for either newly qualified Registrars or experienced consultants to join our Dermatology team. The candidates must be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of achieving this. The post will primarily be based at Barnsley Hospital but may in the future include some community-based sessions. The post holders will also be a part of the clinical team committed to teaching (medical students, Physician Associates, Junior Doctors, GP colleagues and nursing students and nursing staff) as well as research two key cornerstones in our modernised department.

The appointee will work closely with the existing Consultant Dermatologists and other members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive service to patients. This post will appeal to appropriately trained and accredited clinicians who seeking a stimulating career. The post holders will help meet our current service commitments including the 18 week wait target and cancer targets.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in the management of a broad Acute Medicine caseload


Desirable

  • Current ALS certificate or equivalent
  • Experience in a specialist interest that will complement those of other staff


Additional Criteria

Essential

  • Audit - Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit principles.
  • Research - Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
  • Management - Ability to work effectively and constructively with management
  • Teaching - Evidence of effective teaching to medical students and doctors in training and to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to present effectively to an audience using a variety of methods
  • Fitness to Practice - Occupational health clearance and satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the DBS. Required status to work in UK


Desirable

  • Evidence of direct involvement in 2 specific medical audits in the last 18 months
  • Evidence of involvement in a research project
  • Evidence of formal management training
  • Training and/or evidence in areas such as leadership, planning and change management


Skills and Attributes

Essential

  • Willingness and ability to fulfil the key elements of the job description including the shift pattern required
  • Possession of the clinical skills required to perform the job including acute medicine and general internal medicine
  • Ability to cope with the demands of a DGH based Consultant
  • Ability to lead and develop the service
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships on an individual, multi-professional and team basis with all levels of staff
  • Ability to communicate effectively, written and orally
  • Ability to empathise and demonstrate probity
  • Ability and evidence of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to be flexible to meet service demands
  • Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies


Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration, and on the specialist register in Dermatology with proven skills and up-to-date experience in acute medicine OR
  • Full GMC registration, and within 6 months of specialist registration in Dermatology due to completion of training or within 6 months of specialist registration in Dermatology with proven skills and up-to-date experience in acute medicine due to completion of training, or application via GMC CESR with the submission completed at time of interview in either case.
