We are looking for an Applied Psychologist to join the Tees Crisis Service. The post will involve working in the Intensive Home Treatment teams to lead in the provision of psychologically informed interventions for people who are experiencing a mental health crisis.

The successful candidate will be an active member of the leadership team, working alongside a Consultant Psychologist, as well as Consultant Psychiatrists, Advanced Practitioners and Team Managers. They will also provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation and psychological intervention (both direct and indirectly).

Main duties of the job

The role will include supporting the Intensive Home Treatment Teams in developing their psychological skills, knowledge and attitudes. It will be expected that you will have experience working in Adult Mental Health and knowledge and experience in trauma informed care. You will be expected to develop working relationships with colleagues working across AMH service and interfacing services/agencies in Teesside.

Candidates should have excellent interdisciplinary working skills and an interest in developing and delivering an innovative service. Experience of clinical leadership and supervision is desirable. Good working knowledge of the assessment and management of risk is also an important requirement for the role.

Applicants need to be motivated, enthusiastic, flexible and resilient. Knowledge and experience of working with people who have complex mental health needs is essential. Team work is an important element of the job and you will need to demonstrate working effectively in a team and offering supervision to other professionals. The successful applicant will also support with the supervision of Assistant Psychologists and Trainee Psychologists working in the service.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
  • HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
Desirable
  • Registration with BPS
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Experience Essential
  • Must have experience/interest in: Working with mental health clients (depending on designated service area)
  • Multi-disciplinary team working
Desirable
  • Experience of CBT, DBT, Psychodynamics, systematic therapy
Knowledg / Skills Essential
  • Risk assessment and risk management
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
  • Communicate highly complex and highly sensitive information effectively, to a wide range of people
Desirable
  • Experience of joint working with statutory, voluntary and private sector agencies
