About the role

This appointment is for a full-time substantive Consultant Psychiatrist who will be responsible for providing input to the East CMHT-OP, part of Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust alongside two consultant colleagues in CMHTOP, one Care Home Pathway consultant and one Home Treatment Team for OA and a large multi-disciplinary team.

The catchment area of the East Community Team covers a total 65+ population of 31,500. The current post holder covers the Tandridge area of the East Team, including the main towns of Warlingham, Caterham, Oxted, Godstone and Lingfield.

The team prioritises continuity of care and accepts referrals for patients with both functional and organic presentations. Patients can choose to be seen in a number of settings including their own home, a modern accessible clinic or in their GP surgery. The service offers a comprehensive programme of group and individual therapeutic interventions to cater for different levels of need.

There is a separate and specialist care home pathway with HCPs to assess and manage behaviour that challenges; including joint GP/OAP wards rounds & detailed formulations using the Newcastle model. There is additional support from separate and specialist YOD Occupational Therapists for patients with Young Onset Dementia

About you

You will have:
  • A recognised basic Medical Degree and MRCPsych or equivalent, Section 12 Approval and AC status.
  • Full Medical Registration (GMC) with a Licence to Practice
  • Approved Clinician Status and approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act
  • Management qualification or evidence of an interest in developing leadership skills
  • Research, study, audit and quality improvement are strongly advocated and SABP actively support your involvement. There is also access to the weekly trust wide academic programme.

Key new developments over the past three years include:
  • The implementation of the Care Pathways – which focusses on providing specific interventions by cluster for the person’s recovery journey.
  • The implementation of GPiMHS – a newly funded service which provides a mental health service in primary care for those persons who do not require or meet the threshold of secondary care.
