The ANP role is that of an independent practitioner, the ANP will manage patients independently with access to senior medical support.

The ANP role is to support the successful implementation of the integrated sexual health tariff providing clinical leadership and support within the nursing team, working to improve patient care and experience.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for the day to day clinical leadership supervision and support of a group of nurses including, training and development

Plan, evaluate and implement clinical care, negotiate a plan of care acceptable to the patient, optimising patient outcomes using advanced clinical assessment skills to assess patients including history taking, examination, ordering and interpretation of diagnostic tests

    Job responsibilities

    Prioritise appropriately in clinic and ensure effective time-management strategies are embedded within the team to ensure smooth patient pathways and minimise waiting times in clinics.

    Respond to local and national policies and initiatives as appropriate, assessing the impact on the quality of care delivery in partnership with other clinicians in the team.

    Undertake and support nursing audits participate in research based projects as appropriate to enhance patient care and advance knowledge.

    Lead role in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of standards including clinical audit and benchmarking, policies and clinical protocols.

    Qualifications and Training

    Essential

    • Registered Nurse (RN1)
    • Post registered qualification in contraception & sexual health
    • Teaching qualification
    • LoC in IUT and SDI
    • MSc Advanced Practice or equivalent portfolio of evidence demonstrating achievement of competencies for advanced practitioner practice
    • Non-medical prescribing qualification
    • FSRH registered trainer, so able to train doctors and nurses in LoC IUT and implants and sign off nurses and clinicians undertaking DFSRH or willing to commence training on appointment
    • GUM training


    Desirable

    • Masters Degree


    Experience

    Essential

    • Clinical expert with a minimum of 5 years' experience within contraception and sexual health.
    • Significant teaching experience
    • Risk management and Clinical Governance experience
    • Audit and research experience
    • Experience of leading a team/leadership
    • Awareness of local and national targets and policies/guidance
    • Proven experience as a senior nurse/clinical facilitator within a sexual health setting.
    • Clinically confident and competent
    • Understanding of current issues related to professional practice.
    • Understanding of inter-professional working and learning.
    • Implementing learning from incidents and complaints
    • Able to support and develop a diverse workforce, recognising and valuing their different backgrounds, individual and specific needs.
    • Experience of communicating complex information to groups and individuals
