The North Locality has an opportunity to recruit a Band 5 Occupational Therapist into the Inpatient Ward Therapy Team based at Kelling Community Hospital. The Therapy Team delivers quality evidence based care to patients receiving care in the Community Hospital environment, and you maybe asked to outreach to support patients in their own homes.
Main duties of the job
You will need to be able to demonstrate effective communication skills, problem solving skills and be resilient and able to cope in changing situations. Previous experience in the community setting would be desired. The expectation of the post-holder would be to carry out occupational therapy assessments for patients in the inpatient setting working as part of the inpatient MDT. If required there may be a need to provide support to the community team with assessing patients in their own homes, residential homes and nursing homes.

Job description Job responsibilities
The post holder will: Undertake comprehensive occupational therapy assessments of patients including thosewith a complex presentation, using investigative, analytical and clinical reasoning skills,and formulate a graded treatment plan. Develop, monitor and review individualised occupational therapy treatment plans ofpatients including those with complex presentation, in collaboration with the integratedteam, other agencies and the patient, utilising a wide range of treatment techniques andequipment to maximise their functional ability. Assess patients holistic needs, communicating complex and sensitive information topatients and carers as to their assessment, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plan. Where there are barriers to understanding, such as hearing impairment, mental capacityimpairment and other difficulties in comprehension, explanations require adjustments inorder to gain understanding, consent and concordance. Be required to use tact and persuasive skills in order to gain the patients co-operation intheir treatment plan. Be aware of assistive technology and utilise where required. Liaise with GPs, Social Services, inpatient teams, other allied health care professionalsand the voluntary sector to ensure identified needs are met and care co-ordinatedappropriately. To participate in multi-disciplinary/multi-agency meetings as appropriate, eg GoldStandard Framework. Ensure own caseload is planned and prioritised according to service targets and patientneed. Be accountable for work delegated to others within the team. Ensure patient held records are completed for each visit, and that SystmOne inputting iscompleted on a daily basis. Demonstrate dexterity, co-ordination and palpatory senses for assessment, and manualtreatment of patients, including using specialist equipment and fine tools, manual andmobilising skills. Contribute to the requisitioning of supplies and equipment through electronic orderingsystems. Ensure informed consent is obtained prior to initiating interventions. Will be exposed to bodily fluids, infected material, blood products on a daily basis,therefore must utilise universal precautions and adhere to infection control policies. Demonstrate basic IT and standard keyboard skills.

- Current HCPC registration
- Good observational and reporting skills
