Senior psychologist SOAMHS 8A (or Psychologist Band 7 to 8a Development Role) 0.6 WTE

We are seeking to appoint an HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist specialising in work with older adults.

You will be part of a dedicated Specialist Older Adult Mental Health Team in the community, serving the High Weald, Lewes & Havens area. You will be based at Millwood, Uckfield Community Hospital, Uckfield. We are proud of our community and inpatient teams for older adults in HWLH, which take a truly multi-disciplinary approach and offer a high quality of care. The Psychologist role in the teams is valued. You will offer direct work with serviceusers and their carers who have both functional mental health problems and dementia, including psychological assessment, neuropsychological assessment, formulation and evidence-based interventions. You will also offer indirect approaches and support to the teams, including team formulation, reflective practice, care planning, supervision and support tothe team. You will be a team player who enjoys sharing skills and developing the practice of others. As well as being able to provide evidence-based practice, you will have an interest in innovation and finding new ways ofworking.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting time to work in the older adult specialty in Sussex Partnership. As a trust we are seeking to further improve and develop our services for older adults and people with dementia, following a comprehensive review of the specialty and a series of recommendations. We have an active Clinical Academic Group, leading on publication of care pathways for best practice and advocating for the SOAMHS specialty. Research and development have a high profile for this care group, in partnership with the active and respected Centre for Dementia Studies at the University of Sussex

As well as joining a friendly and dedicated team of Psychologists and Psychological Therapists within HWLH ATS, you will join a strong network of Psychologists working with older people both in East Sussex and across the trust. We have an annual CPD and networking day for our specialty where we are able to share both local and national good practice.

Job responsibilities

This role will suit either psychologists already specialising in the field of older adult mental health, or experienced psychologists who are interested in adapting their existing skills to the client group. If we are unable to recruit a suitably qualified psychologist at 8a, we are also able to consider a band 7 to 8a development role. This would suit newly qualified psychologists who have a special interest and some training/ pre-training experience in working with the client group, or psychologists working in Band 7 roles outside of the specialty. Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised accredited post graduate level training in a psychological therapy as specified in the Appendix
  • Professionally registered as specified in the appendix


Knowledge/Experience

Essential

  • Substantial post-qualification/accreditation experience of specialist psychological therapy (assessment, formulation and treatment), as specified in the Appendix, maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
  • A high level of competence in applying a psychological therapy to complex difficulties appropriate for this therapy with the client group served by the post, and a proven track record of delivering positive outcomes in this therapy
  • Experience of offering teaching, training and supervision within a demanding organisational context.
  • A clear and theoretically informed approach to supervision
  • Experience of representing psychological therapy within the context of multi-disciplinary care within a complex organisational context.
  • Significant experience of working with the particular client group served by the team/service
  • Knowledge of guidance and legislation in relation to the client group
  • A high level specialist knowledge of the theory and practice of specialist psychological therapy as specified in the appendix, as applied to the client group using this service
  • Experience of the application of psychological therapy in different cultural contexts and experience of working within a multicultural framework.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the professional registration/accrediting body specified in the appendix
