As part of service development we currently have a new specialist nursing post based within the haematology transplant service for a Transplant/CAR-T CNS. The individual will provide high-quality cancer nursing and specialist support service to patients throughout their transplant or cellular therapy journey, with responsibility for coordination of and enhancing the patient experience, ensuring continuity of care and influencing patient pathways. The post holder will work as an integral part of the transplant coordination multidisciplinary team.

Are you self-motivated, enthusiastic, eager to learn and keen to develop the skills to work both autonomously and as part of a specialist multidisciplinary team? You will be expected to meet the essential criteria and possess appropriate post registration experience in haematology/ nursing and hold a relevant degree. Along with excellent communication, written and computer skills, you will need to be organised and able to work both autonomously and as part of the team. Through face to face and telephone/video contact, you will provide advice, support and information to patients and their families/carers. You will be expected to support nurse-led clinics and actively participate in audit and service improvement.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide specialist nursing advice and support related to HSCT and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers without supervision, working as an integral member of the wider specialist multidisciplinary HSCT team
  • The post holder will work as a skilled expert autonomous practitioner alongside other key members of the HSCT team to ensure the transplant programme is carefully coordinated to ensure seamless, evidence-based patient focused care within the transplant centre that is subject to external regulatory/accreditation processes
  • To establish and maintain clear lines of communication within the HSCT team, relevant clinical/ward haematology teams, external agencies (e.g. search registers), referring hospitals, local Cancer Network and tertiary referral centres across the UK, to support the cohesive multidisciplinary management of patients requiring HSCT and other cellular therapies in line with current research, guidelines and standard operating procedures
  • Participating in all aspects of the planning and coordinating process for HSCT patients, from referral through to HSCT, acting as a core member of the HSCT coordinating team, including linking in with the wider clinical and bed management teams to support the complex HSCT treatment pathways

Person Specification

Education/ qualifications


  • NMC Level 1 Registered Nurse
  • Educated to Degree level or above
  • Specialist training/Qualification relevant to role and evidence of continued professional development


  • Advanced Communication Skills
  • Psychological assessment course



  • Significant post registration and in specialty area and experience in either junior specialty role or team leader/ward management role
  • Experience with managing patient caseload relevant to specialty
  • Experience of data collection for audits, analysing data and delivering presentations
  • Experience of working independently and as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team

Skills/knowledge/ abilities


  • Clear understanding of the role of the coordinator in HSCT and the associated responsibility and accountability
  • Broad understanding of HSCT and cancer treatments and cancer pathways.
  • Understanding of related regulatory/accreditation/governing bodies, e.g. JACIE, HTA, EBMT NICE guidance and government targets relating to cancer specialty
  • Up to date knowledge of current clinical practice and professional issues
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills


  • Advanced IT skills use or Excel/Data management
  • Presentation skills
