An exciting opportunity has arisen for a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join our highly skilled and motivated Pathology Blood Sciences Team at Harrogate District Hospital.

The post will be based in the Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratory. The Pathology team at Harrogate is highly regarded having an excellent reputation with service users. The focus of the department is on delivery of a high quality service with patients at the centre of everything we do. Our vision is to achieve excellence every time.

The team at Harrogate is small and friendly requiring a high degree of team work and co-operation from its members so candidates should be prepared to be part of the close knit environment fostered in the department.

The post would suit anyone who already holds the IBMS Registration Portfolio and HCPC registration. A candidate that will complete registration within 3 months will be considered. The post will be based predominantly in the Haematology and Blood Transfusion sections. The individual must have a minimum of 3 months experience working in an NHS Blood Science department ideally Haematology and/or Blood Transfusion.

Main duties of the job

The Haematology Department has two Sysmex XN-1000 full blood count analysers and two Werfen Topp 550 coagulation analysers. Blood transfusion has two Grifols Blood Grouping analyser. All of our pathology departments use the LabCentre Laboratory Information System.

Haematology and Blood Transfusion, Biochemistry and our Hospital Point of Care Testing team along with central reception makes up our Blood Sciences Department.

The post is for 37.5 hours per week and may incorporate up to two late shifts per week. Once competent the successful candidate may be required to carry out weekend working and working unsociable hours if there is a service requirement which attracts an substantially enhanced rate of pay with a hybrid on call local agreement. The successful individual may also be supported to complete the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Haematology and Hospital Blood Transfusion.

The department hold full UKAS accreditation and utilised the QPULSE document management system
