This is an exciting opportunity to joint the therapy team at the Countess of Chester hospital. The post will involve continuing the recent expansion and development of the well established integrated therapy service in the medical assessment unit. As well as providing specialist assessment and treatment to patients with frailty within the medical assessment unit setting and inpatient frailty wards.

As an advanced occupational therapist/ physiotherapist you will help to drive forwards the trusts clinical vision.You will focus on high quality patient centred interventions and timely robust discharge planning. As a senior practitioner you will provide therapy support for the medical, surgical and frailty ward based therapists.As well as supporting the team leader to ensure the safe efficient and effective running of the therapy service and deputise in their absence.

Main duties of the job

You will work with other clinical and therapy leads to provide support to junior staff fostering a home first approach were possible. Working collaboratively with the practice development therapist and other clinical/team leads you will enable an enriched learning environment where positive risk taking is encouraged and supported.

The post will offer the opportunity to develop and use highly specialist skills in the rehabilitation of patients at all stages of their journey, providing holistic and patient centred care in order to achieve their maximum level of function and independence and fulfil their therapy goals.

You will be joining a well-established inpatient therapy team and will take an active role in service development and evaluation, training provision and research projects.

About us

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:
  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.

The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is �23 (standard) or �43 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first three months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. A small annual fee of �13 per year applies.

New entrants to the NHS will commence on the minimum of the scale stated above.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC Registration


Desirable

  • Membership of professional body and specialist interest group


Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 4 years post qualification with at least 2 years at a specialist level
  • Evidence of commitment to Continuing Professional Development and reflective practice
  • Ability to organise and respond to complex information, and work under pressure


Desirable

  • Previous of experience of working within a frailty ward


Knowledge

Essential

  • Advanced knowledge of current best practice in specialist Occupational Therapy area e.g. Critical Care
  • Knowledge of professional ethics and their application in practice
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of the principles of clinical governance
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of health, safety and risk management


Skills

Essential

  • Advanced group working and team working skills
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and non verbal)
  • Evidence of recent audit and/or research skills
  • Computer literacy and ability to prepare appropriate professional reports and article
