We're looking for an ambitious individual, who will be a crucial part of the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Band 5 Physiotherapy Rotation.

We offer an excellent platform to broaden your skills and knowledge within our diverse rotation across acute and community services. We want to recruit someone who will not only provide quality therapy services first and foremost, but also help us take the next steps in developing and promoting our therapy services.

This is a full time role (37.5 hours) worked mostly Monday to Friday. Some weekend working may be required and the post holder will be expected to participate in the on-call rota once competent.

Bases could be in the Ashton, Wigan, Wrightington or Leigh areas.During the community rotations you will need to have the ability to travel independently as part of your daily role.

We have a genuine commitment tostaff development and post holders are expected to develop themselves professionally in line with the needs of the current/future service.

An Enhanced DBS with checks against the Adults' and Children's Barred list will be obtained during pre-employment checks.

The role will require you to work across all areas in the Trust which includes those that are designated as positive, asymptomatic and negative COVID wards.

  • Cardio-respiratory
  • Elderly/frailty rehabilitation
  • Variety of MSK outpatients settings (including Wrightington elective care, trauma and orthopaedics)
  • There may be scope in the future to offer rotations within the Community REACT team

Job responsibilities

  • To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care. To ensure high standards of clinical care for the patients under your management, and support therapy assistants to do likewise.
  • Post holders are required to work independently, guided by defined clinical & professional guidelines. Access to a more senior member therapist is available when necessary. Clinical work is evaluated on a regular basis.
  • To interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical facts to form accurate diagnosis and prognosis in a wide range of conditions, to recommend the best course of intervention, and to develop comprehensive discharge plans.
  • To produce informative and detailed information for out of Trust patient transfers for continuing physiotherapy management.
  • To take delegated responsibility from a senior therapist for managing patients with particular conditions and be responsible for providing generic and physiotherapy assessments and treatment plans for patients within intermediate care and community therapy services.
  • Formulate and deliver an individual physiotherapy treatment programme based on a sound knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options using clinical assessment, reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment skills e.g. manual physiotherapy techniques, patient education, exercises, and other alternative options.
  • To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients, and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.
  • To accept partial responsibility for any tasks delegated to unqualified staff.
  • To demonstrate appropriately developed dexterity, co-ordination and palpatory senses for assessment and manual treatment of patients.
  • To assist the team in developing policy changes within therapy.
  • To provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to relatives, carers and other professionals, to promote understanding of the aims of physiotherapy, and to ensure a consistent approach to patient care.
  • To contribute to the provision of advice, teaching and training to other members of the MDT regarding the management of patients within intermediate care and community therapy services.
  • To assess capacity, gain valid consent and have the ability to work within a legal framework with patients who lack consent to treatment.
