Are you passionate about supporting the recovery of patients through Occupational Performance following a stroke?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced band 5 or established band 6 Occupational Therapist to join Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust's (SWBH) Stroke and Neurology Team.

You will have the opportunity to rotate across the Stroke and Neurology service, working in the acute, rehabilitation and community Stroke services.

This year the new Integrated Community Stroke Service (ICSS) launched, offering much needed post stroke Rehabilitation for patient in the community setting, enabling individuals to achieve their potential in a meaningful environment, to maximise their recovery and quality of life.

You will work within a team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists and therapy assistants to provide holistic and integrated post Stroke rehabilitation.

With the developments of MMUH and the ICSS we need colleagues who are driven and happy to challenge change. You will be a key member of the team in working to embed the Trust's vision and values as the service is established and develops.

Main duties of the job

As part of this role you will be be required to utilise your core OT skills to complete assessments and deliver treatment plans to inform and develop individual rehabilitation goals for our cohort of patients.

You will use your knowledge and experience of rehabilitation to both deliver care for our patients and support the learning and development of more junior staff.

Alongside this, effective leadership skills will be required to direct others as needed and deputise for the band 7 OT lead in their absence.

    Person Specification



    • OT Degree
    • Professional Registration with HCPC


    • Membership Royal College of Occupational Therapy
    • Membership of RCOT Specialist section - Neurological Practice



    • Sufficient postgraduate experience to demonstrate ability to meet the personal specification and fulfil the job description.
    • Able to write complex reports in English
    • Experience of working as part of a Therapy team and the wider MDT
    • Experience of delegating to and supervising junior Occupational therapists and Rehabilitation Assistants.
    • Specific experience within the field of Stroke/Neurology
    • Contribution to the clinical education of less experienced staff or undergraduate Therapy students
