We are looking for an experienced nurse with leadership skills to work in our large outpatient department. You will be supporting the whole team to deliver high quality patient care through well led and well managed clinical activity.

Good interpersonal skills are required to lead and support the team, and to undertake a wide range of administrative duties in tandem with clinical activities.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will hold a strong set of clinical skills, with experience in a variety of specialities. Good IT skills are needed for managing Healthroster, undertaking appraisals, monitoring training and day to day management duties. Supporting the outpatient Matron to plan and deliver a wide range of clinical activity and trouble shoot/problem solve to maintain safe and effective service delivery, within an environment that promotes a responsive approach to the changes within the NHS and specifically Outpatient Transformation.

Job responsibilities

Main Duties will include:

Dealing with emergencies and unforeseen events

Allocate staff to clinics and lunches

Allocating rooms to Consultants/doctors/CNS's

Have an understanding of hospital Policies.

Complete Return to Work meetings.

Complete sickness meetings.

Undertake Staff Appraisals.

Manage Complaints.

Manage staff disputes.

Cover clinics

Must be prepared to step up in band 7 absence.

The candidate needs:

To be professional at all times and to lead by example.

Good communication skills.

A calm manner and apleasant disposition.

Flexibility and reliability.

Person Specification



  • Qualified RGN/RN/RSCN with active NMC Registration
  • Educated to degree level supplemented by diploma level specialist training or relevant equivalent training and experience
  • Evidence of continued professional development in relevant subject


  • Diploma Professional practice or working towards this Qualification
  • NVQ Assessor Award (D32/33/AI)



  • Substantial post registration experience at band 5
  • Experience of working autonomously and managing a caseload
  • Demonstrate enhanced clinical skills within relevant speciality


  • Computer and keyboard skills
  • Experience of teaching and presentation skills
  • Previous experience of taking charge of an area
