We are looking for a School Nurse who wants to make a difference to the lives of children, young people and their families

We have an exciting opportunity for an innovative School Nurse to join our growing Healthy 0-19 Team.

Main duties of the job

As a School Nurse, you will provide professional leadership and direction to a skill mix team to enable the efficient and effective delivery of the 0-19 Service.

You will facilitate and deliver a range of assessments, brief interventions and proactive public health initiatives, working both independently and as part of a multi-agency team around the family. Safeguarding will be an integral aspect of the role.

You will be an NMC registered nurse who holds a Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (School Nursing) qualification. You will have caseload management experience, along with previous experience of mentoring staff and/or supporting them through preceptorship.

You will possess strong leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to delegate and supervise staff, as well as the ability to recognise and escalate risk and contribute to control measures.

You must possess a full UK driving licence and have access to your own transport.

Job responsibilities

Work with parents and children to promote the physical, intellectual and social development of school children, particularly those who are disadvantaged, to ensure that they are ready to thrive when they get to school. Complete a comprehensive assess of the heath needs of clients, families and communities and facilitate the mobilisation of appropriate resources to meet identified needs.

Hold a caseload of families with school children and be responsible for effective caseload / workload management, providing specialist evidence based advice, information and support to the population served, team members and relevant agencies

Deliver the Healthy Child Programme to all school children and their families.

Person Specification

Education/ Qualifications/ Training


  • Registered Nurse with NMC
  • Specialist Community Public Health Nurse Qualification (HV)/ SN) at postgraduate diploma level or equivalent.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge relevant to working with children and families underpinned by theory and experience.
  • Mentorship.
  • Full UK driving licence



  • Experience of partnership working Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams
  • Sound knowledge and experience of promoting the Safeguarding and wellbeing of children
  • Evidence of leadership
  • Experience of staff management.


  • Experience in leading teams in the provision of health services to children, young people and families
