Band 5
Contract Type
Full Time
We are delighted to offer an exciting Band 6 Stroke and Diabetes Dietitian post. This role could also be a Band 5 Dietitian development opportunity progressing to a Band 6 on successful completion of competencies (usually within a 12-month timeframe).

In this role you will deliver and develop the service provision for the stroke unit and acute medicine wards at Musgrove Park Hospital. In addition, you will gain dietetic experience of working in diabetes with support from our Diabetes Specialist Dietitians.

What can we offer you?
  • Strong opportunity to develop your supervision and leadership skills within the department, with wider support
  • Opportunities to advance broader dietetic skills including guideline development and training of others
  • Gain experience and develop dietetic skills in diabetes, through formal training and supervised/supported practice

What are we looking for?

Ideally, you'll have varied post-graduate experience, covering a range of specialties and have specific experience in working with patients following stroke. Dietetic experience of diabetes is desirable, but not essential as we will support you with any training needs. Advanced communication skills and strong MDT working experience are essential.

You need to be registered as a Dietitian with the Health and Care Professions Council and ideally have current NHS experience.

We are a very friendly, hardworking and supportive team and would love to welcome you to join us!

Main duties of the job

Working with a Band 5 Dietitian and Dietetic support staff, you will provide a dietetic service to the acute stroke unit and a number of medical wards, including endocrinology. This will involve not only providing the clinical care but also taking responsibility for service improvement across these designated wards.

Working alongside our Band 7 Diabetes Specialist Dietitians and the wider Diabetes Multidisciplinary Team you will also provide dietetic care to patients with diabetes including covering outpatient clinics and delivering education/training.

Informal visits welcome.

We take Student Dietitians from Plymouth University for A, B and C placements and support Dietetic Apprenticeship student placements. We actively encourage training and CPD. As a service we provide Bank Holiday cover to inpatients and work flexibly to provide clinical cover to specialist areas.

As an organisation, the NHS offers a wide range of benefits including flexible working, pension contributions, market leading annual leave allowance, career progression and regular conversations, not to mention our Blue Light Card and NHS exclusive discounts.

The benefits of working in Somerset include the idyllic countryside, with our areas of outstanding beauty and stunning coastlines. You will get to enjoy these perks whilst still only being a stone's throw away from bustling city centres like Bristol, Bath and Exeter and only two hours away from London.

There are excellent educational facilities in the area and, when compared to other regions, house prices are reasonable. You will experience the best of both in Somerset, the countryside and the cosmopolitan - there is truly something for everyone!
