An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within our secure services, as a Band 6 Social Worker. The successful applicant will be part of the Social Care team based at Brockfield House, Runwell Wickford Essex.

This post is a permanent full time post, and is 37.5 hours per week. Monday-Friday.

This post provides Social Care input to the service users on our two low secure wards. You will work as part of the wider MDT on the ward.

You will work closely with the service users and their families/carers.

The successful candidate will undertake statutory work such as reports for MH review Tribunals and managers hearing. Work closely with other agencies, such as MoJ, local authorities, probation and other teams within the trust.

You will undertake any safeguarding issues that arise on the wards and be the main point of advice.

You will prepare and present paperwork to the relevant funding panels to secure accommodation or other services that require funding to enable discharge of service users when they are suitable for discharge.

You will be required to help with carers' forums that are facilitated by the Social Care Team and any events for carers that we arrange.

You will be required to carry out any other tasks that are completed by Social Workers.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will use exemplary social work knowledge and practice and be committed to undertake person centred work with individuals and families focussing on their strengths, interests and assets in accordance with the Care Act (2014). As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will support the understanding and knowledge of the role of social work within mental health, as identified by the five role categories for Social Work for Better Mental Health.
  • You will work as a Social Worker in a multi-disciplinary team leading and contributing in all social care knowledge and skills including legislation and safeguarding. You will be expected to continue to develop your social work skills working towards successful completion of the AMHP training. If a newly qualified social worker you will complete your Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) working in a community environment with regular supervision and support. In delivering your duties, you are expected to display behaviours that are aligned with your profession as highlighted in Social Work England standards of conduct, the Trust values and as required in accordance with the NHS Constitution at all


  • You will be expected to work collaboratively with key partner organisations, service users, carers, clinicians and other practitioners within the multi-disciplinary team in delivering services.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Possession of recognised Social Work Qualification - Degree in Social Work, DipSW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent Agrees a commitment to AMHP training.
Knowledge Essential
  • Multi-disciplinary Social Care experience within multi-disciplinary team- relevant to people with mental health difficulties Knowledge and understanding of Social Care practice as defined by Social Work England, and appropriate legislation and guidance. Working knowledge of The Care Act and other key legislation.
Skills Essential
  • Literate in IT/Computer skills Good oral communication skills based on fluency on the English language Demonstrates a commitment to highest professional and ethical values. Demonstrate the ability to provide and receive highly complex, highly sensitive or highly contentious information. Makes ongoing assessments of frequently complex service users' needs and associated risks and demonstrates knowledge and understanding of wide range of resource options within budgetary framework/constraints. Negotiates and implements effective plans for support, enablement, prevention, protection and monitoring, within department/government targets. Able to offer coaching, support to students and/or unqualified staff, and supervise as required. Ability to work in a multi-agency environment with an understanding of the differing responsibilities of statutory and non-statutory organisations. Flexible, positive and empathetic approach. Produces clear, accurate and concise oral and written assessments, records and reports to facilitate decision making within multi-disciplinary teams.
