We have an exciting opportunity within Oncology for a Band 7 Macmillan Uro-oncology Nurse Specialist to help us develop our growing uro-oncology service at University Hospitals Plymouth. Working alongside the lead uro-oncology nurse practitioner , oncology consultants and multi-disciplinary teams you will support the development of the service, manage the team, undertake direct specialist advice and clinical care and provide training and development.

The post holder will be supported to undertake nurse led clinics for monitoring and follow up of patients on treatment, take part in clinical audit and research and provide education and training. Preference will be given to candidates who are non-medical prescribers, although you will be supported to undertake non-medical prescribing and other appropriate level 7 modules to reach your potential, as need be.

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

Main duties of the job

• To lead and develop the service alongside the lead uro-oncology nurse practitioner, band 6 specialist nurses, and oncology consultants.
• To provide a specialist nursing service for patients requiring uro-oncology treatments.
• Undertake nurse-led clinics including non-medical prescribing if appropriate.
• To act as an expert resource and facilitator to educate and train
• Undertake audit and evaluation and develop policies and procedures as required.
• To work as an integrated member of the cancer nurse specialist team.

• Works autonomously in accordance with NMC guidelines, to manage his/her caseload of patients Develop and undertake nurse led clinics and prescribing (if qualified) with support of consultants and lead nurse.
• Act as key worker for cancer patients and undertake holistic needs assessment in line with national and local guidance
• Communicates highly sensitive and emotive condition related information to patients, relatives e.g. terminal illness, bereavement etc. Participates in complex ethical decision-making process
• To act as the patients advocate on a frequent basis and provide expert advice on treatment options to enable patients to make informed choices
• Provides continuity of care throughout the patients journey and liaises across organisations
• Develops specialised programmes of care and provides highly specialised advice and written and oral information to patients, relatives
• To act as a key communication resource for the multidisciplinary team

• RN diploma/degree qualification.
• MSC or equivalent level of demonstrable experience.
