Following promotion of existing team member we now have the exciting opportunity to join the dynamic and forward thinking Gynae Oncology Specialist Nursing Team

The role will compliment the current Clinical Nurse Specialist team within Gynae Oncology. The key function of the role is to deliver a comprehensive and patient focussed service, encompassing all aspects of the care pathway for patients with either suspected or diagnosed gynaecological cancer. The role will involve both face to face and remote patient contact

There will opportunities for the post holder to develop enhanced skills and have access to advanced practice development such as PACR / prescribing course.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide specialist services to cancer patients as below:
  • The post holder will develop advanced clinical expertise with an emphasis on clinical examination and assessment skills and be able to manage patients independently in rapidly changing clinical conditions
  • The post holder will work within a defined case-load with patients from pre-diagnosis through to the end of treatment/discharge/relapsed disease or end of life care, incorporating diagnostic/surgical/medical and oncology teams as appropriate.
  • The post holder will provide a responsive assessment service to ensure responsive triage and implementation of appropriate and timely clinical care for patients with complications of diagnosed cancer and or its associated anti-cancer therapies
  • The post holder will work alongside other clinical colleagues in oncology, haematology, specialist palliative care, surgery, acute medicine, radiotherapy, radiology and pathology to ensure quality of care to the patients is maximised.
  • Develop and implement clinical policies/ guidelines, education and audit programmes relevant to acute gynaecological oncology service delivery.
  • The post holder will be required to develop, implement, maintain and monitor standards of care to ensure patient safety and quality of care and to work with the Clinical Lead to resolve failures of standards of care in all areas of the patient environment

The bus from town arrives every 12 mins and there are two Park and Rides which drop off at the hospital. It is close to the M5 which gives easy access to Bristol and Exeter.

Person Specification



  • Current NMC registration
  • High Level of clinical expertise in an acute care setting
  • Communication skills training
  • Advanced communication skills training or willingness to undertake


  • Master's degree
  • Teaching Qualification
  • Cancer care course at degree level
  • Non-Medical Prescribing Course/Qualification
  • Physical Examination Course/Qualification



  • Sound knowledge of the care and management of Gynaecological cancer and/or cancer treatments.
  • Knowledge of audit and research methodology
  • Understanding of information and support needs of patients with suspected or confirmed Gynae-Oncology cancer patients and their carers.
  • Knowledge of current research in Gynae-Oncology including changes in Genetic testing
  • Up-to-date knowledge and understanding of national and local cancer issues and developments
  • Knowledge of the Patient and Public Involvement agenda
  • Up to date knowledge of current evidence based practice in nursing


  • Evidence of change management or knowledge of change management strategies
  • Knowledge of undertaking research



  • Relevant and recent post registration experience in oncology and/or Gynae-Oncology and palliative care or acute care.
  • Relevant teaching experience
  • Experience of undertaking audit
  • Experience in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care


  • Regional and National presentations or publications
  • Undertaken research or experience of.
  • Experience of change management and project development
