Are you recently qualified as a Dietitian or due to qualify and wishing to consolidate your dietetic experience?

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Band 5 Dietitian to join our team at Musgrove Park Hospital.

We welcome final year student applications. Tailored employment options allow you to commence in post as a Band 4 Dietetic Assistant Practitioner until you receive your HCPC registration.

You will be joining the Dietetic team to help deliver a service to a range of adult wards as well as outpatients. As we are an integrated service,there are opportunities to work across both acute and community settings.We understand work life balance is extremely important and support flexible working.

What are we looking for?We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Dietitian with excellent communication and team working skills. You will need to be applying for orHCPC registered as a Dietitian.

Main duties of the job

Based at Musgrove Park Hospital, you will be part of the Adult Acute Dietetic Team working together to provide a dietetic service to designated adult inpatient wards including stroke and acute medicine, surgery and gastroenterology and oncology. You will also deliver a regular outpatient clinic with support from a supervising Dietitian. As well as your work with patients there will be opportunities to be involved in departmental initiatives, service development and the provision of education and training for patients and staff.

Across the wider Dietetic Department, opportunities are also available to gain experience with Specialist Dietitians in areas such as ParenteralNutrition, Critical Care, Diabetes, Paediatrics, Weight Management and Bariatrics.

You will have access to regular supervision and have opportunities to undertake continuing professional development through work shadowing,competency frameworks and courses as identified by your training needs and objectives.

You will become a part of a friendly, welcoming, growing team of Dietitians, Dietetic Apprentices, Dietetic Assistants, Nutrition Nurses andAdministrative staff on the acute site at Musgrove Park Hospital as well as our dietetic colleagues based at Yeovil District Hospital and the Community Dietetic Team.

We take Student Dietitians from Plymouth University for A, B and C placements, alongside supporting apprenticeship programmes and activelyencourage training and CPD. As a service we provide Bank Holiday cover to inpatients and work flexibly to provide clinical cover to specialistareas.

Person Specification



  • HCPC registration (or working towards registration) as a Dietitian


  • Experience of teaching groups



  • Dietetic knowledge which encompasses a range of dietetic treatments likely to be encountered in an acute district general hospital


  • Member of the BDA



  • Clinical dietetic experience either in a previous dietetic post or as a student in clinical placement

Skills and Abilities


  • Ability to be flexible and a positive approach



  • Excellent communication skills and ability to adapt communication style
  • Ability to work as part of a team

Planning and Organisational


  • Ability to plan and prioritise
