We are part of a modern laboratory within the newly formed Derbyshire Pathology joint venture for Derby and Chesterfield laboratories which are both accredited to ISO 15189.

The department performs bacteriology, parasitology, serology, molecular testing and operates an extended working day.

We are looking for individuals who have completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in either Medical Microbiology or Virology, however candidates with relevant experience that require support to complete the Specialist Portfolio will be considered.

Candidates with Virology/ Serology experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Main duties of the job

To undertake the day to day sample processing and analytical clinical investigations for Microbiology to the agreed standard of timeliness and quality. Supervise Band 5 Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and MLAs within their work area.

To engage in training of staff To fully participate in the on-call and shift systems. Familiarisation and understanding of ISO 15189 standards, Health & Safety requirements audit and training/education techniques is essential.

Experience of utilising transformation methodologies to drive change and improve service delivery is also desirable. Proactive individuals, with drive and dedication will excel in this post.

  • oStarted or completed IBMS Specialist portfolio or equivalent
  • oHCPC registration


Experience in Microbiology

Essential

  • oDemonstrable post HCPC registration UK laboratory experience
  • oSpecialist level knowledge in Bacteriology/ Virology
  • oAt least 2 years experience working in an NHS laboratory


Desirable

  • oExperience of troubleshooting
  • oParticipation in Oncall / Out of hours
  • oMolecular experience
  • oKnowledge of QMS system
  • oAt least 2 years experience in Bacteriology/ Virology


Skills/ Knowledge

Essential

  • oCompetent to be on the on call rota as a lone worker
  • oExperience of audits and non conformances
