This in an exciting new opportunity to shape and develop the Speech and Language Therapist role within the Tertiary Neuro oncology service based at University Hospital of Wales. You will lead in the development of SLT services to the Awake Craniotomy Service.

We are looking for a dynamic therapist to join our team to provide innovative and effective clinical services across the pathway alongside the MDT. In addition to being an integral member of the Neuro oncology service you will have the clinical and professional support of the wider acute SLT team.

Main duties of the job

We need an SLT who has a passion for working with patients across the whole clinical pathway. You will have specialist skills in the assessment and management of complex communication problems both pre op, intraop and post operatively in order to contribute to holistic person centred care. You will need to be able to lead and develop this new area of our service and have skills in collecting and evaluating outcome data to demonstrate service improvements.

You will be part of the Neuro Oncology MDT and will work effectively in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, including neurosurgeons, AHPs and Clinical Nurse specialist to provide comprehensive assessment and management of communication and swallowing difficulties.

You will also promote the development, planning and delivery of intervention programmes and training in the specialist clinical area. The adult SLT service at Cardiff & Vale is an innovative and friendly service with Clinical Lead SLTs providing robust support and supervision. Participation in service projects and audits is encouraged.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Speech & Language Therapy Degree
  • HCPC Registration
  • Evidence of M level learning.
  • Post graduate dysphagia qualification to at least RCSLT level C.
  • Evidence of specialist post graduate CPD relevant to clinical area.
Desirable
  • Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • M.Sc.
Experience Essential
  • Significant post graduate experience of working with a wide range of acquired communication and swallowing difficulties.
  • Experience working with patients with tracheostomies
Skills Essential
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
Desirable
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office and other IT packages
