An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Full Time Consultant Psychiatrist to join The Older Peoples Mental Health team working in the community locality in the West of Southampton with a catchment area of 10,000 Older Adults.
The post holder will work in close working relationship with another part time consultant as well as a senior associate specialist doctor in the West Southampton team. The medical team currently consists in addition to this vacancy a permanent part time consultant psychiatrist as well as 8 sessions of an experienced associate specialist who is a CCT holder in old age psychiatry. The west Southampton team is a mature team with its staff able to undertake initial assessments of referrals, including urgent referrals as part of an established duty system. There are no nursing or occupational therapy vacancies in the team currently.
The post holder will be based at Oakwood Centre, Western Community Hospital, William Macleod Way, Southampton, SO16 4XE, where the community teams and administration staff for are co-located.
The post holder will only have community responsibilities and on call duties (approximately 1 in 18)

The Trust covers all of Hampshire, excluding Portsmouth City and a small area of North East Hampshire. The population of 1.3 million is registered with the six local Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs); and SHFT is responsive to local needs and works closely with Adult Services and the CCGs to develop locally based Services. The Trust has a positive working relationship with the University Of Southampton Faculty Of Medicine and an active programme of Research and Development. The services provided are: Adult Mental Health, Older People’s Mental Health, Learning Disabilities, Substance Misuse, Social Care, and Community Health Care
The Trust also provides specialist mental health services to a wider population in Southern England via NHS Specialised Services commissioning arrangements. These include:Adolescent Mental Health In-patient Service, Forensic Mental Health Services, Forensic Adolescent Mental Health In-patient service
Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a Licence to Practice. They must possess the MRCPsych or equivalent qualification and must also be on the GMC Specialist Register for adult or old age Psychiatry (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR (CP) date within 6 months of interview. Applicants must also be able to fulfil the travel requirements of the post.
