The post-holder will be responsible for the management of a defined caseload (patients/service-users) and will provide specialist nursing support, advice, education and/or care to that specific group. They will carry continuing responsibility for the assessment of needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards within the respiratory department.

Main duties of the job

Carries continuous responsibility for a defined caseload

Take a responsible role in the Targeted Lung Health Checks Programme.

Organises, prioritises and evaluates workload based on accepted referral and discharge criteria

Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates specialist care or treatment regimens for patients diagnosed with lung cancer.

Works as part of the MDT fostering effective professional relationships to ensure effective communication.

Works across organisational and professional boundaries as an expert practitioner as part of the multi-disciplinary team.

Promotes health education and health promotion with patients and carers, ensuring that they involved in decision making.

Utilises interpersonal and communication skills

Provides appropriate written information to support verbal advice.

Communicates effectively with hospital medical staff, general practitioners and nursing/midwifery staff giving specialist support and advice

The post-holder will be required to provide interventions to promote self-care to minimise hospital admissions where possible.

Reviews, interprets and acts upon both laboratory and point of care patient test results

The post-holder is responsible for clinical data entry

The post-holder will support the implementation of local / national standards in conjunction with relevant members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Person Specification



  • post-registration experience, including 2 years in a relevant clinical speciality
  • Experience of caseload assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, demonstrating knowledge of specific patient needs.
  • Experience of participating in clinical audit


  • Experience of working in an MDT and across organisational and professional boun
  • Experience in policy development



  • Report writing / Presentation skills

  • Appropriate NMC Registration(RN/RM/RN Child)
