Energy and Environmental Manager to improve the environmental culture throughout the Trust and develop a supportive and positive learning environment within the team, engaging and empowering others.
Main duties of the job
The role requires an experienced, qualified, environmental or sustainability professional to develop, implement and manage systems (including the Trust's current ISO14001:2015 certified Environmental Management System (EMS) for all aspects of waste and environmental monitoring and measuring to ensure the Trust receives best value for money, whilst maintaining high environmental standards.
It is a trustwide operational role delivering waste and environmental initiatives which will require liaison with Estates and Facilities Operational Teams, Care Group leads and teams, other internal stakeholders, and external organisations, to ensure compliance with legislation, sector codes of practice and guidance.
The post holder will assist in the implementation and maintenance of policies, procedures and strategies that will achieve, and where possible exceed national, local, and Trust-wide environmental targets.
To support the delivery of the Trust's Green Plan where Net Zero targets relating to Waste and wider environmental management are embedded.
Support the Energy and Environmental Department and Trust, including healthcare professionals providing a range of mental and physical healthcare services, to deliver the NHS Net Zero carbon targets.
To support the Senior Energy and Environmental Manager to improve the environmental culture throughout the Trust and develop a supportive and positive learning environment within the team, engaging and empowering others.

Job responsibilities
Provide advice on Environmental best practice issues across the Trust ensuring compliance with statutory legislation, health and safety, Health Technical Memoranda specifically HTM 07-01 Management and Disposal of Healthcare Waste), Codes of Practice. Maintenance and delivery of the pre-acceptance waste audit schedule of Trust sites against HTM 07-01 requirements. Oversee the management and reporting of non-conformances identified during waste audits managed via Odyssey compliance system. Monitoring and management of the Trust Waste risk register, escalating issue via the Trust Health, Safety and Security Committee when necessary. Manage waste management governance and reporting processes. Delivery and accountability for the monitoring, revision and reporting of the Our Waste objectives within the Trust Green Plan. Assist in the development of Trust and Directorate strategies, policies and procedures relating to waste and environmental management. Completion of necessary Trust, NHS, and statutory returns in relation to waste and environmental management including but not limited to. ERIC (Estates Return Information Collection), PAM (Premises Assurance Model), Greener NHS Quarterly returns. To collate the information required to ensure an accurate carbon footprint from waste related activities. To implement procedures to ensure that accurate data quality is maintained of all waste related data and environmental management metrics. Identify the organisation training needs for waste compliance and environmental awareness developing training materials and guidance to support this. Management and maintenance of the Environmental Management System (ISO14001:2015) accreditation within the Estates and Facilities Directorate. Actively promote waste minimisation, recycling awareness and good practice amongst Trust staff responsible for maintaining waste systems, with a view to improving the environmental performance of the Trust. This must be in accordance with the NHS Clinical Waste Strategy. Planning and managing specialist waste and environmental projects from conception to completion. To produce appropriate risk assessments where necessary. To carry out the duties placed on employees by the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and all statutory duties appertaining to their sphere of work. Ensure timely collection of all data required for effective environmental management. Establish targets, detecting and investigating consumption or cost exceptions to increase efficiency and minimise waste. Monitor and report environmental issues, costs, and performance against national and local targets. Producing regular and ad hoc reports as required, e.g. performance management reports Assist the team with the management of financial resources for waste and environmental management. Manage and maintain contracts for waste and ISO14001, ensuring that services are purchased in a cost-effective manner and that invoices are appropriately processed to ensure the best value is achieved. Identify opportunities for cost effective investment in waste minimisation and environmental management schemes. Preparing and presenting business cases aimed at realising such opportunities. Assist in the development of the Trust waste policy and procedures in line with legislation and to reflect new and developing guidelines and best practice. Assist in the administration of the statutory waste transfer documents and the registration with the Environmental Agency for all Trust and partner sites. Monitor the completion and receipt of the Environmental Agency hazardous waste consignment notes and ensure these are compliant. Ensure that statutory requirements to maintain waste and environmental records for the necessary minimum duration are met. Support the delivery of sustainability training to key stakeholders, including Executive and Non-Executive Directors, Directors, Senior Managers, EMS system leads and other staff.
