East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) is recruiting a Deputy Head of Radiotherapy Services to provide strong clinical leadership and support to the Radiotherapy Departments at Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals.

To realise the full potential of an integrated radiotherapy service, the Trust is looking for a dynamic and forward thinking HCPC registered Therapeutic Radiographer who has recent management experience, to work closely with the Head of Radiotherapy in driving forward service development and integration.

The service is staffed by multi-professional teams of clinical oncologists, therapeutic radiographers, clinical scientists, dosimetrists and engineers. The holistic needs of patients are met by nursing staff and Macmillan radiographers.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide strong, visible clinical leadership, operational management and ensure a high standard of care through appropriate risk management and governance of the multidisciplinary clinical service delivery. To be involved in QA, Audit, complaints and service development initiatives as appropriate
  • To deputise in the absence of the Head of Radiotherapy by liaising with the Radiotherapy and Oncology teams to ensure continuity of service

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience of managing staff
  • Evidence of highly specialist skills
  • Previous experience of supervision and clinical education
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience in producing and implementing departmental guidelines and protocols


Desirable

  • Experience of formal presentations
  • Change Management/ Project management


Qualifications

Essential

  • HCPC registered Therapeutic Radiographer
  • Radiography Degree or equivalent in therapeutic radiography
  • Masters qualification or equivalent experience supplemented by post graduate courses
  • Management qualification / post graduate experience in team leader / management role
  • Involvement in training and teaching
  • Specialist clinical experience


Knowledge

Essential

  • Significant and strong clinical knowledge with practical background
  • Knowledge of Cancer pathways for a range of tumour sites
  • Broad range of clinical understanding and experience of up-to-date clinical issues which are evidence based
  • Knowledge of a range of methods to engage service users in service planning and development
  • Current professional, educational and health developments
