We are looking for an experienced or newly qualified mental health nurse to join Pavilion Ward PICU.

Pavilion Ward is a 10 bedded, male, Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). We primarily work with individuals who are aged 18-65 and we are located within Mill View Hospital in Hove.

This post offers the Trust's �4,000 Incentive for band 5-7 Nurses & Practitioners, as well as a relocation package up to a maximum of �8,000 (subject to terms and conditions).

Main duties of the job

You will be working alongside an established and experienced multi-disciplinary team (MDT). This consists of nurses, healthcare assistants, nursing associates, doctors, the occupational therapy team, a psychologist, the pharmacy team and an art therapist.

We are passionate on Pavilion Ward about providing the highest standards of care and ensuring to implement least restrictive practice. We were part of an 18 month quality improvement project which allowed us to monitor and implement change around restrictive practices. This project has now finished but is something that we are continuing to implement on the ward.

The ward is AIMS accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatry, which is a set of additional standards recognising whereoutstanding careis being achieved

To deliver a high standard of evidence based inpatient nursing care in the designated care group in partnership with the team, the service users and where appropriate their family
  • To act as a primary nurse in the assessment of needs and organising of care. To co-ordinate shifts and provide supervision for support workers and students. To work within a team of nurses and other professionals who are committed to the delivery of a quality service. To adopt a flexible approach to hours of duty, in order to meet the needs of the service over a 24-hour period. To take charge of a designated clinical area and deputise as appropriate. To represent the Ward Manager and/or care team, at appropriate forums and disseminate information as required. To represent the clinical team perspective at multidisciplinary meetings and clinical reviews of patient care. To be an active participant in the multi-disciplinary team, formulating care plans and utilising appropriate assessments.

  • Registered Nurse with current registration (mentalhealth / LD/ Adult) appropriate to the job role.
  • Studying towards Diploma/ Degree.
Knowledge/Experience Essential
  • Child and Adult safe guarding procedures.
  • Demonstrates ability to assess and manage clinical risk

  • Knowledge of MHA (1983/2007)
  • Knowledge of Mental Capacity Act (2005), to include practical knowledge of FACE documentation, DOLS and Best Interest decisions

  • Demonstrate ability to enhance care through evidence based knowledge
  • Demonstrate professional development relevant to the care group
