Skin Cancer Nurse Specialist, Dermatology, Band 7. Fixed Term

This position may require cross site cover across both Hospitals (Hilltop Heights, Carlisle and West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven). This is a part time position (26.25 hours), for 12 months.

Main duties of the job

  • Be responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of specific dermatology care.
  • Provide the prescribed nursing care without supervision.
  • The dermatology unit looks after patients with newly diagnosed skin cancers as well as providing ongoing care to those already diagnosed. All these patients will have open access to the service offered by the Clinical Nurse Specialist. The unit and the MDT works closely with plastic surgeons from our tertiary centre and with primary care.
  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of nursing practice in the unit.

Person Specification



  • Registered Nurse with Degree qualification
  • Post-registration qualification in speciality area
  • Recognised teaching qualification and proven ability to provide clinical education


  • Non medical prescribing qualification or willingness to undertake



  • Post registration experience
  • Specific training to undertake specific procedures within the remit of the role
  • Demonstrates evidence of ongoing continuous professional development
  • Budgetary awareness


  • Experience in dermatology and/or oncology
  • Surgical skills
  • Practical experience of leading clinical audit



  • An awareness of the requirements of the post.
  • Demonstration of continued learning.
  • IT skills
  • Be aware of, and act in, accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.


  • Knowledge of the dermatology speciality.
  • Awareness of the local PCPI agenda
