The Occupational Therapy team leader will be working within a mutli disciplinary team providing care and treatment to people with a learning disability, within their own homes in the community, The Learning disability services are provided through two key care pathways: the Forensic pathway and the Assessment and Treatment to Independence in the Community Pathway, high quality services for adults with a learning disability form a significant part of The Black Country Partnership NHS Foundation Trust care provision.

The Learning Disability Community team's provide a full range of assessments, interventions, support, training and advice to individuals themselves, their families and paid carers and the network of multi-agency stakeholders who are involved in the care and support of this client group.

Main duties of the job

  • To manage a caseload of service users with a learning disability including those with complex issues, using evidence based/person-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist interventions.
  • To providing leadership for junior staff e.g. Junior OT's and OT assistants and students through supervision and appraisal.
  • To plan, develop and evaluate Occupational Therapy services within the Community Team, holding responsibility for defined projects. Proposing policy and service changes that may impact the wider team.
  • To contribute to the maintenance and development of the wider Learning Disability Division Occupational Therapy service.
  • To function as an independent practitioner within the community. To be a lead specialist accountable for own professional actions.
  • To lead in the operational running of the OT team on a daily basis.

We are looking for a dynamic and capable Occupational Therapy Team leader to join our well established community learning disability Team.

Occupational Therapy is a core role in our teams working alongside other disciplines. The Occupational Therapy team support people with Learning Disabilities to maintain Occupational Performance within their community, this will be providing assessment and treatment in areas such as sensory integration, manual handling, behavioural support, functional equipment provision, postural care, and falls

You should be confident in developing and delivering interventions across all occupational domains both with individuals and groups.

As well as being an experienced clinician, you will utilise leadership skills to develop the role of OT within the team. OT has a core role that requires dedication from the whole team to deliver shared pathways to service users which helps them to become more independent and live in the least restrictive environment.

This role will be diverse and exciting, the needs of the service mean that the post holder must be able to work flexibly to provide OT across the Black Country.

Person Specification Education / qualifications Essential
  • Degree in Occupational Therapy (or Degree equivalent diploma)
  • registered with HCPC
  • Practice Educator qualification / experience
  • Post graduate training relevant to clinical area of Adult Learning Disabilities. (Masters degree or experiential or specific short courses equivalent to Masters level)
Experience Essential
  • Relevant post graduate training and experiential learning (PBS, SI, Trauma)
  • Leadership and first line management experience
  • Experience of audit procedures o
  • experience of individual and group work.
  • experience of Supervision of junior staff and students.
  • oExperience of a range of clinical settings including LD, and mental health.
Knowledge Essential
  • evidence of Specialist knowledge and application of O.T. assessments and interventions relevant to Learning Disabilities
  • Evidence of Planning and coordination of treatment packages.
  • Understanding of O.T. outcome measures.
  • oKnowledge of and application of Sensory Integration Theory to practice.

  • evidence of Ability to build effective working relationships and work in a team, understanding team dynamics.
  • evidence of Supervisory/appraisal skills
  • Membership of Professional Body, e.g. BAOT and Special Interest Group - Learning Disabilities
